Homework
1-2 hours per week. Students will need to read from their Travel Guide (1 page per continent) and fill out their Travel Journal. They are also encouraged to practice labeling the continents and oceans. There will be a small project that each student is expected to complete and share with the class on the last day.Class Experience
US Grade 2 - 5
*This is a FLEX class which means NO live meetings.* In this class, we will travel around the world. The students will be able to learn about different continents and oceans. We will learn basic facts about each country; what famous landmarks are, what the land is like, what animals you may see, what countries are on the continent... This course will also cover briefly how to read maps and their tools such as legends, compasses, scales and latitude, and longitude. This is intended to be an introductory course for learners to start to envision the world they live in. Each student will be provided with a printable Travel Guide where they can read (reading comprehension!) facts. They will also have access to a printable Travel Journal where they can show what they have learned in class and through reading. Students will also complete a small project and present it at the end. The projects will be chosen from one of the following: 1. Make a mobile representing the continents and oceans 2. Draw a map and animate it (present facts) 3. Write a short story/ letter about or to someone who lives on a different continent 4. Create a travel scrapbook 5. Edible map of the world 6. Choose your own project that involves what you love! (approved by teacher) We will use the video record feature in the classroom to interact, share what we have learned and present our projects. Interaction: Student-to-student: Through discussion questions and by sharing our projects Student-to-course work: Reading, watching videos, project Student-to-teacher: Discussion questions, feedback on project This will be a 9 week class. Each Week I will post videos, assignments and discussion topics. I will be available through the classroom or private message if needed for questions or help. Week 1: Introduction to landmarks, maps and continents Week 2: North America Week 3: South America Week 4: Europe Week 5: Asia Week 6: Africa Week 7: Australia Week 8: Antarctica and the Oceans Week 9: Review and practice the continents. Present projects.
Learning Goals
Students will have learn about the continents and oceans. They will also be introduced to the concept of reading and creating maps. This course will incorporate Social Studies and Reading Comprehension skills.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
There may be some religious landmarks mentioned. For instance, we will briefly mention the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro as a prominent landmark or the Vatican in Rome. We will not go into any of the religions but there may be mention of the prominent landmarks.

I love history and geography. I find other cultures and places fascinating. I love that every place has a story to tell. This course is a fun way to introduce our world to your students. I also have a minor in history and have worked in the Elementary school setting for several years.
