Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
In this one-time class we will explore arachnids! Students will learn about the different kinds, what their habitats, behaviors, and ecological roles are.

This class uses the topic of arachnids to introduce important ecological concepts such as food webs, habitat, and niches.

We will investigate questions such as:

What are the different kinds of arachnids?
How do spiders and other arachnids sense the world?
What kinds of important roles to arachnids play?
How do arachnids differ from other arthropods?

The class is lecture and discussion based. Learners will view and participate in a presentation full of images and some videos. They will have the opportunity to ask questions and think critically about arachnid ecology!

Hello! My name is Arwen, and I am absolutely passionate about space science, the environment, and teaching! I offer courses about the solar system, planets, natural processes, soil, and the environment. I am a NASA Solar System Ambassador and science author. My Master's is in Space Science, and I have undergraduate degrees in Agricultural Ecology, and Natural Resource Management. I am currently working on a doctorate in STEM education.

I believe curiosity and learning are human instincts. I try to honor that by asking the learners lots of questions and encouraging them to think about information in new ways.

When not teaching, you can find me hosting "Found in Space: A Science Podcast for Kids and Teens" or playing Dungeons and Dragons and exploring the Southwest with my three homeschooled kiddos and our big, fluffy orange cat named Moose!

I like to keep class sizes small so each learner can get individualized and full attention. Please feel free to reach out.
