Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
In this one-time class we will explore centipedes and millipedes! Students will learn about the differences between the two, what their habitats, behaviors, and ecological roles are.

This class uses the topic of centipedes and millipedes to introduce important ecological concepts such as habitat, trophic levels, and niches.

We will investigate questions such as:

What is the difference between a centipede and a millipede?
Do centipedes really have one hundred legs?
Where can you find millipedes?
How do myriapods differ from other arthropods?

The class is lecture and discussion based. Learners will view and participate in a presentation full of images and some videos. They will have the opportunity to ask questions and think critically about myriapod ecology!

Hello! My name is Arwen, and I am absolutely passionate about space science, the environment, and teaching! I offer courses about the solar system, planets, natural processes, soil, and the environment. I am a NASA Solar System Ambassador and science author. My Master's is in Space Science, and I have undergraduate degrees in Agricultural Ecology, and Natural Resource Management. I am currently working on a doctorate in STEM education.

I believe curiosity and learning are human instincts. I try to honor that by asking the learners lots of questions and encouraging them to think about information in new ways.

When not teaching, you can find me hosting "Found in Space: A Science Podcast for Kids and Teens" or playing Dungeons and Dragons and exploring the Southwest with my three homeschooled kiddos and our big, fluffy orange cat named Moose!

I like to keep class sizes small so each learner can get individualized and full attention. Please feel free to reach out.
