Each week we will explore one of the 88 constellations. We will discuss the Greek myths associated with it and examine major features such as prominent stars, nebulae, and galaxies. We will focus on constellations visible in the night sky at the time of the class. We will weave into lessons important astronomical concepts such as stellar magnitude, evolution, and apparent motion, as well as stargazing essentials like celestial sphere, ecliptic, and declination. Classes will be lecture and discussion based. Presentations are very visual, full of pictures and some videos. Learners’ questions and participation is highly encouraged. This is a highly interactive class.

As we discuss Greek and Roman mythology, we may occasionally view images that include classical statues. When possible I make a point to select waist up and less revealing angles.
