Animal Art: Realistic Sloth Sketch

In this one-time drawing course, students will learn how to sketch a realistic full body drawing of a sloth hanging from a tree.  

What will students learn?

1. Students will learn techniques for sketching a proportionate contour drawing (outline) of a sloth. 
2. Students will learn techniques for smooth blending, pencil application, gradient blending, and adding contrast.
3. Students will learn techniques for sketching realistic fur/hair texture.
4. Students will learn techniques for sketching a realistic tree branch.

I will demonstrate each step for students and have students complete that step along with me.  My classroom is a calm, fun, and creative environment where discussion between teacher and students is encouraged.  I ask students questions throughout the lesson to check for student understanding.  Students may also interact with each other if they want to share what they have learned during class.  Students who enroll in this class should have basic drawing skills, like drawing and manipulating shapes with a pencil.  In this class, we practice more advanced techniques (fur detailing, sketching realistic bark texture on a tree branch, etc.)  Students who enroll in this class should have some drawing experience.
