In this one-time advanced art course, students will learn drawing techniques to sketch a realistic mythical dragon full body portrait. #CREATIVE

Class Experience

  • 1. Students will learn techniques for sketching a proportionate contour drawing (outline) of a dragon. 2. Students will learn techniques for smooth blending, pencil application, gradient blending, and adding contrast. 3. Students will learn techniques for sketching scales. 4. Students will learn techniques for sketching wings.

Details: If students do not finish their dragon portraits in class, I encourage them to finish outside of class. Please note that the scaly texture on the skin can be time consuming, so it is very possible that students would need to finish this outside of the designated class time.

Details: Students will be assessed throughout class and at the end of class through questions and sharing of drawings.
REQUIRED FOR STUDENTS:
-Paper (Preferably drawing paper, but if you do not have this, regular paper is fine.)
-Pencil
-Regular everyday eraser
-Pencil sharpener  
-Blending tool (We will practice blending skills a lot in this class.  If you do not have blending stumps, please bring a tissue and/or a Q-Tip.  If you are unable to get these supplies, students are fine to use their fingers to blend.)

WHAT THE TEACHER WILL BE USING (OPTIONAL):
-Drawing paper OR Sketchbook (You can purchase a sketchbook for around $10 on Amazon.)
-Wooden pencil
-Pencil sharpener
-Kneaded eraser (You can purchase a kneaded eraser for around $5 on Amazon.)
-Regular everyday eraser
-Drawing pencils (You can purchase drawing pencils for around $10 on Amazon.)
-Blending stumps (You can purchase blending stumps for around $5 on Amazon.)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Please be aware that this course uses materials that may be harmful to your student if used inappropriately.  If you think your student may use any class materials inappropriately and/or potentially cause harm, please provide adult supervision for your student.
