Summer Art Camp: Realistic Human Drawing

In this summer drawing camp, students will learn techniques to sketch realistic human facial features (eyes, nose, mouth, ears), a human portrait (face), and full body human sketches. #CREATIVE

Class experience

US Grade 6 - 9
Beginner - Intermediate Level
Day 1: Human Facial Features (Eyes and Eyebrows)

1. Students will learn techniques to draw different shaped eyes and eyebrows.
2. Students will learn techniques to draw realistic eyebrows and eyelashes.
3. Students will learn techniques to shade, blend, and detail realistic eyes.

Day 2: Human Facial Features (Noses, Ears, and Mouths)

1. Students will learn techniques to shade human noses and ears with pencil.
2. Students will learn techniques to draw realistic shading for human skin.
3. Students will learn techniques to draw realistic highlights on human noses and ears.
4. Students will learn techniques to draw realistic lips with pencil shading and texture.

Day 3: Human Portrait (Face)

1. Students will learn techniques to draw a proportionate human face.
2. Students will learn techniques to draw realistic texture of human hair.
3. Students will learn to combine previously learned techniques to create a realistic drawing of a human face.

Day 4: Full Body Human Gesture Drawing Studies 

1. Students will learn techniques to draw proportionate human gesture drawings by sketching quick, full body portraits.
2. Students will use a wooden mannequin to practice drawing several full body poses.
3. Students will learn techniques to draw loose sketches of human figures and practice drawing several, quick sketches of human figures.

Day 5: Full Body Human Drawing 

1. Students will learn techniques to detail a realistic full body human drawing.
2. Students will learn techniques to shade legs, arms, etc.
3. Students will learn to combine previously learned techniques to create a realistic, full body drawing of a human.

Students will be assessed throughout class and at the end of class through questions and/or sharing of drawings.

REQUIRED FOR STUDENTS: -Paper (Preferably drawing paper, but if you do not have this, regular paper is fine.) -Pencil -Eraser (new, everyday pencil top erasers and/or kneaded eraser) -Pencil sharpener -A printed or electronic copy of the reference photos available upon enrollment (found in the classroom tab, in welcome post when you scroll all the way to the bottom of the page) -Blending tool (We will practice blending skills a lot in this class. If you can, try to have blending stumps, Q-tips, and tissues. If you are unable to get these supplies, students are fine to use their fingers to blend.) OPTIONAL: If you are able to get these supplies, they can be helpful! -White gel pen -Wooden drawing mannequin
