Join us for an up-close and personal encounter with two magnificent Harris' Hawks, Micah and Dracarys, and discover the unique adaptations and behaviors that make them such remarkable hunters. This course will provide a comprehensive introduction to Harris' Hawks, focusing on their natural history, hunting strategies, social behavior, and their role in falconry. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of raptor biology and the importance of conservation efforts. What topics will you cover? Introduction to Harris' Hawks: Taxonomy, distribution, and habitat. Physical Adaptations: Specialized features for flight, hunting, and survival. Hunting Strategies: Cooperative hunting, pack dynamics, and prey capture. Social Behavior: Family groups, communication, and territoriality. Falconry and Conservation: The role of Harris' Hawks in falconry and their conservation status. Live Hawk Encounter: Observe Micah and Dracarys up close and learn about their individual character traits. The class will be structured to provide a balance of informative lecture and engaging live interaction. We'll begin with a brief introduction to Harris' Hawks, followed by a discussion of their key characteristics and behaviors. Finally participants meet Micah and Dracarys, allowing participants to witness their unique movements and behaviors firsthand. My teaching style is interactive and engaging, combining scientific information with captivating storytelling. I aim to foster a sense of wonder and appreciation for these incredible birds. I will use clear and concise language, making the information accessible to learners of all ages and backgrounds. I am enthusiastic and approachable. I believe in creating a relaxed and interactive learning environment where participants feel comfortable asking questions and sharing their observations. I'm passionate about sharing my knowledge of raptors and inspiring others to appreciate the natural world. Lecture: A concise introductory lecture with visual aids, including slides showcasing stunning images and videos of Harris' Hawks in their natural habitat. Live Hawk Encounter: The majority of the class will be spent observing Micah and Dracarys. I will explain their behaviors, answer questions, and provide insights into their individual characteristics. Discussion: Participants are encouraged to ask questions throughout the class, fostering a dynamic and interactive learning experience. Question and Answer: Ample time will be reserved for a dedicated Q&A session, allowing participants to delve deeper into specific topics. Visual Aids: High quality images and short video clips will be shown to enhance the learning experience.
