What is Composting?
Defining compost and the composting process.
Understanding the benefits of composting:
Soil enrichment.
Waste reduction.
Environmental impact.
The Science of Decomposition:
Microorganisms and their role.
Aerobic vs. anaerobic composting.
The carbon-to-nitrogen (C:N) ratio.
Factors affecting decomposition (temperature, moisture, aeration).
Composting Ingredients:
"Greens" (nitrogen-rich materials).
"Browns" (carbon-rich materials).
Identifying suitable and unsuitable materials.
Practical Applications:

Composting Methods:
Backyard composting (piles, bins).
Vermicomposting (worm composting).
Hot vs. cold composting.
Composting systems for different scales, from home to community.
Building a Compost Pile:
Layering techniques.
Maintaining proper moisture and aeration.
Turning and monitoring the pile.
Troubleshooting:
Addressing common problems (odors, pests, slow decomposition).
Identifying and correcting imbalances.
Using Finished Compost:
Testing compost quality.
