Beginner - Advanced Level
Do you like acting as lots of different characters, and would like to learn an imaginative technique of how to create lots more? In this one-time acting class, you will learn about ‘finding the voice and personality’ of a simple object, to create an original character. Learners will be shown how to use some household objects to create their own characters; from a pack of playing cards, a funnel, a seashell, a spoon, and more. Each learner is also asked to surprise the class with a household object of their own choosing, for us all to create characters from. The class will start with an especially tailored vocal and physical warm-up, before learners will be shown through fun games and activities how to use simple objects to create brand new characters. I look forward to seeing you in class.............and don’t forget to bring your random household object too!
Learning Goals
Whilst working on this technique we will also build the transferable skills of:
Focus,
Attention to detail,
Coordination,
Opening up our imaginations,
Confidence building and presentation skills,
There will also be lots of opportunities to share newly developing skills throughout the class, and receive encouraging feedback from myself, Mrs. T, as your teacher/instructor, and your fellow classmates.
*As with all Stage Skills classes, on the completion of this class, parents can contact me to request a personalised, printable certificate. Although this isn’t a formal qualification, it can look very good on a wall or in an achievement folder (especially if you collect the whole Stage Skills series), but can also be useful to show to Performing Arts settings, for auditions, or to help learners create an actor’s resume.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
This is an active acting class so please make sure learners have space to move around, are wearing comfortable clothing, and have a drink nearby, should they need it. Please also check that the household object they choose to share is 'appropriate', and you are happy for them to show it to the class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Non-US Teaching Certificate in Music/Theater/Arts
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from University of Southampton
I am a fully qualified teacher (BAPA, PGCE) with 16+ years of experience teaching Drama (and some Music, PSHCE, and English) to 11 to 15 years olds and Performing Arts to 16 to 18 year olds in bricks and mortar schools, where I currently still teach part-time, including running small group and 1:1 confidence building workshops. I also have many years of experience leading community workshop schemes (like create a play in a week) and local drama groups for ages 4 to 16.
As a professional actress, I've performed to children from ages 2-14 in theatres, arts centres, social clubs, historical properties, nurseries, and schools. Playing roles such as the Gingerbread man and a tortoise, to a wartime headmistress and Queen Elizabeth the first! With lots of Q & A and interactive workshops along the way.
I then branched into presenting (live, events, radio, some TV, and for holiday companies across Europe) including some Voiceover work. I currently create and present drama and presenter tuition videos and have a regular podcast.
I have produced and directed many productions (musicals and plays) as well, including some I have written myself.
