Class Experience
Breathing is one of my favorite things. Eating is another of my favorites. Oxygen and many food come from plants!! So, let's celebrate plants in our class. We will learn about the parts of the plants, how they grow, what they need to be healthy and the parts of the plants that we eat. We will be using the book 'Seed, Soil, Sun' occasionally in class. This was an American Farm Bureau Book of the Year! Each week the students will draw a picture of something they learned that week and share it in the classroom. All students are expected to comment on other student's work with a positive comment or follow-up question. We hope to create a shared opportunity to help one another learn and grow. In addition, students will be paired up and should work together to write a short poem about one of the following topics: One (or more) parts of the plant, The plant life cycle, What plants need, Composting or Farmers. These are due before week #4. I am a laid back teacher who loves it when the students get involved in the class! Not only will I be sharing videos and worksheets, I am here to answer any questions you might have. Students will get feedback on assignments in a timely manner as well as some interesting plant conversation starters they can share with friends and family (optional). Schedule: Week 1: Parts of the plant, Which parts do we eat worksheet, art activity Week 2: Plant life cycle, Watch Magic School-bus Gets Planted ($1.99 on Amazon or check it out from your local library) Week 3: How do plants grow?, Watch Magic School-bus Goes to Seed ($1.99 on Amazon or check it out from your local library) Week 4: Soil, farmers, composting and vermi-composting, recipe, optional garden activity

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a 4-H Agent who LOVES to learn. I enjoy teaching young children and helping them get excited about learning. For this age group, we will learn about nutrition, animals, science and many other fun topics. I also enjoy novel studies for upper elementary and middle school grades. I usually choose books that are not being studied widely but have a great plot with many elements to discuss.
I just finished my third Master's Degree (Agriculture, History and Youth Development). I have a B.A. in English and an A.S. in Science with a PhD level certificate in Family and Community Development. I need to decide on my next learning experience. Many of my classes are on-line which I love.
I have two children who are grown- one is in veterinary school abroad and one is in the U.S. Army. We homeschooled, on-line schooled, private schooled and public schooled so I have knowledge of all types of learning. I have been married for 23 years.
I LOVE animals. We foster mama dogs and puppies for two local rescues and breed Toyger and Bengal cats. We have 3 large dogs and about 30 chickens as well. I'd love to get a goat next.
