Before students can be successful solving equations, they must be adept at simplifying expressions. In this class, we will be reviewing and practicing the necessary skills to simplify expressions to prepare students for Algebra 1. We will start with the very basic concepts of expressions and review distributive property to properly prepare us for the rest of the lesson. In class will cover: -key features of an expression -the distributive property -identifying like terms -combining like terms I teach by asking many questions in order to constantly assess student understanding and guide students to the correct conclusions. Therefore, students should be ready to discuss and brainstorm together as we work through problems. Prior to the lesson, learners should be able to add, subtract, and multiply integers (positive and negative numbers) to be prepared for this class.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of key features of an expression.
Students will be able to simplify expressions by using the distributive property and combining like terms.
