US Grade 7 - 10
This is part 1 of a 4 part Algebra course with each part covering half of a semester worth of content. The first 8 weeks will cover a total of 5 units. 1. Algebra foundations 2. Solving equations and inequalities 3. Working with units 4. Linear equations and graphs 5. Forms of linear equations. Each unit will vary in length depending on amount of related content. Each lesson will start with a review of previous content. I will then give instruction based on the new material, work examples as a group, and then give them independent work time. Small homework assignments will be given after each lesson balancing checking for understanding without being excessive. After each unit, a quiz will be given covering all of the unit's material. The 8th week of class will be reviewing any content area that wasn't fully comprehended, taking a deeper look at any topic discussed, or allowing for a slower pace depending on the needs of the particular students in each class. Each part will end with a comprehensive test over all the material covered in the 8 week class. Unit 1: Algebra Foundations (3 lessons) Evaluate one variable and multi variable expressions Evaluate expressions with decimals and fractions Equivalent expressions Unit 2: Solving Equations and Inequalities (5 lessons) Solving linear equations with variable on both sides Solving linear equations with parentheses Analyzing number of solutions for linear equations Multi step inequality Compound inequality Unit 3: Working with Units (2 lessons) Rate conversions and formulas Word problems with multiple units Unit 4: Linear equations and graphs (7 lessons) Two variable linear equations Slope Horizontal and vertical lines X and Y intercept Applying intercepts and slope Modeling linear equations and inequalities Unit 5: Forms of Linear Equations (4 lessons) Slope intercept form Point slope form Standard form Review and test (3 lessons)
Learning Goals
The student will learn the basics of algebra. They will be applying these skill while working with expressions, equations, and inequalities. Applying these skills in real world problems especially as related to the linear equations.
