US Grade 8 - 11
Beginner Level
By the end of the course, students will proficiently navigate the ethical considerations of AI, master MLA-style citation for generative AI, and engage in insightful case study discussions, empowering them to responsibly and confidently utilize AI in academic settings.
Ms. Becky has been an English Language Arts teacher since 2010, and loves all things tech. She prides herself on teaching students to use new tech in inspired, guided, and academic ways with guidance to make good choices.
Students will receive a handout after class with examples and guidance to take with them for future use.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Third-Party Tools:

Lumio by SMART
This tool will be utilized to make the direct instruction/lecture times interactive, including polls, games, individual practice, and whole-class whiteboards. Students may join as a guest by typing their name in at the start of the lesson. Those who want to access the materials after class may sign in with a Google account, but it is not required for this class.

ChatGPT
This tool will be utilized during the application phase of our lesson, where students can play in a "sandbox" atmosphere, experimenting on using ChatGPT in ethical ways. This will be guided by the instructor, and if a student is not able to join us on ChatGPT, they are welcome to watch along on the instructor's shared screen. ChatGPT does require a login, and students may use a Google account to do so.
We will be utilizing guidance from the MLA Style Center on how to properly cite generative AI.
