Beginner Level
The purpose of this class is to get the students to interact with the words in a way that will help to cement the meaning in their minds. By interacting with the words in multiple ways, this is far more likely to happen! In this live, ongoing class, we will deeply explore 9 SAT/ACT vocabulary words per class through an interactive Lumio presentation that will host: - anonymous live polls via Nearpod to establish prior knowledge of terms and definitions - class-wide discussions over material - exemplar graphics and photographs to connect to the term visually - a brief etymology (word history) for the term to establish connections between related words - teacher-created example sentences - a chance for students to apply their new knowledge to create their own example sentences using the new word - synonyms and antonyms challenge games - an interactive class competition game In addition, learners will be provided with: - a guided notes graphic organizer in your enrollment "welcome" message that you can print week after week to organize the terms neatly in a binder for future study sessions - a "quick reference" guide posted in the classroom at the end of class for those who weren't able to attend or want to double-check their own notes - a Quizlet Study Deck of the weekly words and definitions for students to study, play games, and further interact with the weekly words and definitions - the class recording, made automatically available after processing so that students who missed always have access, and those who love to fortify notes have free access to do so After you've covered all lessons in Level 1, roll right in to Level 2, found here! https://outschool.com/classes/level-2-sat-and-act-vocabulary-prep-or-thorough-and-engaging-college-vocab-prep-fvYMg8r6?usid=CNLi5hYJ&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link

Teaching--especially in English, writing, and language arts--is a true passion of mine. I graduated Cum Laude from Kansas State University in 2010 with a Secondary Education degree in English and Journalism, and then went on to teach in the public schools before setting off on my own as an online teacher and tutor.
My philosophy of education is to make it as fun, personalized, and as interactive as possible for the kids. I always try to even out my direct instruction/lecture time with plenty of opportunities for students to practice these new skills, take polls, play review games, and collaborate with peers.
I am happily married to my husband Brad, and we have two beautiful daughters, Sophia and Elise. We currently reside in Kansas in a small town, and we love the small town life.
Oh, and Zerr is pronounced "Zarr," so it rhymes with "car." 😉
