Beginner Level
Welcome to "Magic School Bus Reading & Writing Explorers: Science Quests in Comprehension"! Each week, we'll delve into the captivating world of science with a different Magic School Bus book. Designed for students in grades 1-3, our class fosters a love for reading and strengthens essential reading comprehension and short-form writing skills. What Will Be Taught? Through the Magic School Bus series, students will develop reading comprehension, critical thinking, and writing skills. Each week, we'll cover a new book, discussing scientific concepts, asking and answering questions, and concluding with personalized reflections and/or book summaries. Class Structure: Our class meets weekly, covering one book per session. The curriculum is carefully crafted to align with the engaging and educational Magic School Bus series. Students can expect a blend of interactive discussions, question sessions, and creative writing activities. The class will begin with a fun and engaging class poll, followed by a Scholastic-approved read-aloud of the book with pauses throughout to discuss important points of the story. Afterwards, students will have the opportunity to answer reading comprehension questions and write a short summary of the book and/or a reflection of what they liked or did not like about the book as additional guided writing practice. Teaching Style: As an educator, my approach is dynamic and student-centered. I facilitate engaging discussions, encourage active participation, and provide constructive feedback on written responses. The goal is to create a positive and inspiring learning environment. Interaction and Engagement: Students will actively engage in discussions, polls, games, and writing activities. Lectures are minimal, replaced by interactive elements like activities, active reading, and group discussions. Learners will have the opportunity to interact with both the content and their peers, fostering a collaborative and enjoyable learning experience. Join us for a class where science meets literacy, sparking curiosity and excitement in young readers! Please note that we have obtained expressed written permission from Scholastic to use the Magic School Bus series in our curriculum.
