Students will learn about the life of Paul Laurence Dunbar. They will learn about his rise to fame as the nation's first acclaimed African American poet. Students will learn about poetic devices, figurative language, and literary allusions. They will also learn about Dunbar's life in Dayton, Ohio and see how his home reflected his success as a 19th century professional poet.
I hold a Ph.D. in English Literature and Language with a specialization in Nineteenth-Century African American and American Literature, Epistolary Theory, and African American Epistolary Literature.
