Acting 101: An Introduction

In this course, your kid will learn more about the basics of acting, and how to dive into characters as well as some recommended learning materials. I'll also walk your child through auditioning, rehearsing, and performing on stage.

Class Experience

This class will explore the basics of acting for anyone new to acting, or just wanting a refresher. Through this 8-week course, we'll dive into the Stanislavski method for acting and what that means, what acting is, as well as the steps to preparing for an audition. We'll also cover monologues, scene work, and how to prepare for your first show. The class will gradually increase in topics, adding on from week to week, starting with the basics of acting and theatre, and moving forward all the way to opening night of your first show!

Syllabus

8 Lessons
over 8 Weeks
Lesson 1:
What is An Actor?
 This is a basic understanding of theatre. What is theatre and what are actors? What do actors do, and who else is involved in theatre? 
Lesson 2:
Stanislavski Technique for Beginners
 This will give an understanding to the Stanislavski System of acting that is commonly used. It includes teaching about what an action is, what does your character want out of the scene, and what do they do to get that. 
Lesson 3:
Stainslavski Technqiue Part Two
 This is a deeper lesson into the technqiue. This week will dive deeper into what action verbs are and how to use them in scenes and monologues. 
Lesson 4:
Monologues
 This week we'll focus on monologue. What is a monologue, how do you pick out a good monologue, and how do you work it using the previously established techniques.

I have six years of experience directing theatre, as well as holding my degree in Film Production and Theatre Directing from Keene State College. I have been working with actors to develop the skill set of acting that works best for them throughout my directing career. I have helped many actors in the past understand the Stanislavski technique, as well audition materials.
