Learners will work on English Language skills in the following areas: reading strategies, writing strategies, vocabulary, and Grammar and mechanics. Learners and parents will receive an email with IXL login information once enrolled and a letter explaining the importance of working on the IXL platform outside our live class time. Please check the syllabus for a weekly breakdown of the topics for each class and the skills learners will practice in IXL. At Encourage Online Academy, students lead the flow of their education. If they express they are struggling with a specific topic, we will work with them. If the struggle is because a learner is missing a fundamental skill, we will go back and teach that missing skill. Then, moving forward, when that learner has demonstrated mastery, to prepare them for more challenging skills.

Expectations/Bias
We will discuss expectations, communication, learn about each other, access IXL, ethos, pathos, and logos, evaluate for bias, words starting with prefix re-, simple past, present, and future tense, and irregular past tense. 60 mins online live lesson
Lesson 2:
Academic Writing
We will discuss how to trace an argument, informational text and academic vocabulary, correcting ships in verb tense, form the progressive and perfect verb tenses. 60 mins online live lesson
Lesson 3:
Graphic Organizers
We will review main idea, discuss graphic organizers, broad and specific topics, homophones, gerunds and their function, and infinitives and infinitive phrases. 60 mins online live lesson
Lesson 4:
Author's Purpose
We will discuss author's purpose, formal writing, organizing our ideas, Greek and Latin roots, misplaced modifiers, and dangling modifiers. 60 mins online live lesson
