Why is it sad that parallel lines have so much in common? Because they'll never meet!

Are you ready for a math class that will not only provide mathematical knowledge but some fun to go along with it? During this class, we will do just that with 4 🎥 recorded lessons 🎥 provided each week along with a recap on Friday that goes over each of the skills (along with extra practice) that we learned that week. This helps to ensure that we have quality exposure and practice to the important skills. This is a flexible (asynchronous) class, but it will be filled with interaction, support, and guidance during this important time of foundation math skill development.

Please note that this class is a continuation of Mighty Mathematicians: 4th Grade Math (Quarter 1) and will follow the same structure and format to provide consistency and continued mathematical success.

Within our class, each day has a fun math activity to warm up our noggins. These activities are designed to draw learners and increase their engagement with math and each other. Accompanying these activities is a recorded lesson that includes instruction, prompts for notes that learners can write in a journal, and skill practice that learners can self-check with the video. Practice is an important component of math skill development and, as such, there will be a short assignment that accompanies each lesson. These can be completed and returned to Mrs. Bombard for correction and feedback.

Families can see an overview of this course's daily tasks and how each quarter creates a full year's curriculum via this document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qOn_JyISjeaaq6quhmmo5hOH5izxdgtZjn8suGzNJxg/edit?usp=sharing

Our class is formatted in the following manner:
Monday: We kick off our week by warming up our math brains 🧠 via a video posted in the classroom. This video includes our math joke of the week and the day's lesson. Learners will be able to complete the mathematical learning along with the video. There is a short assignment at the end of this video to practice the skill that was taught. Learners will be encouraged to share their own math jokes each Monday.

Tuesday: Our second lesson of the week begins with a math riddle. Do you think that you can solve it? Then, we will have our lesson of the day along with the practice assignment ✏️ in a similar format to Monday. Learners will be encouraged to share their guesses to the math riddle within the thread of the classroom discussion as well as share their own math riddles.

Wednesday: Did you know that math can often be found in our everyday lives 💐? Each Wednesday we will be able to examine an example of mathematics found in our day-to-day activities. After our exploration, we will have our Wednesday math lesson along with the practice assignment. Learners will be encouraged to share math in the world around them through photographs 📸, videos 📹, and written descriptions📝.

Thursday: On Thursdays, we will have the opportunity to think critically about math found in our everyday lives 👩‍🍳. Once we have completed this brain-building activity, learners will have the video lesson along with a practice assignment. Learners will be encouraged to share their critical thinking within the thread of the classroom discussion as well as engage in discussion as to why given responses are (or aren't) correct/possible.

Friday: Fridays are our challenge day! Math facts are incredibly important and we will have an accuracy challenge on Fridays. Given the nature of Math Fact Challenges on Fridays, learners will be competing via Kahoot! to get the most math facts correct. They will be encouraged to celebrate one another's successes and growth in math fact knowledge each week. There are no formal lessons on Fridays, but a recap activity will be provided.

Overview of interactivity:
With peers: Learners will be prompted and encouraged to share the fun of math through each day's challenge as mentioned above. They will also be encouraged to select one math problem from the homework to share a video demonstration of how to solve that. This will encourage them to be confident in their answers as well as seek out the feedback and assistance of others. These activities are optional

With Mrs. Bombard: Learners will receive daily feedback on their practice assignments. Short snippet video tutorials will be posted periodically if requested for more challenging concepts and learners enrolled in 4th-grade math will receive 10% off of a Saturday tutoring session for help if needed.
