Class Experience

How do people create those items and objects found in games and architecture renderings, well you're in luck this is the part 1 of 2 classes that will walk the students through the 3d modeling process. During this four week class we will explore 3d modeling while focusing on creating different items.

Over the course of this class students will learn 3 modeling techniques and then spend one class staging their work with lights, camera's and animations. The class will be run as if the student is a new intern at a game studio, and is for beginners who are looking to learn about 3d modeling over a period of time. We will be using the software Blender as our platform to work on our 3d models. This is a free software and available at the website https://www.blender.org/.

Each class will be 90 mins where the students will spend an hour following along with me and then 30 minutes to work on the weekly assignment in class and ask questions from me. Each week students will receive a different assignment to continue after class. These modeling assignments will take at least 1 hour of time after class and are due 24 hours before the next class meeting.

Week 1 will introduce students to moving around in a 3d world and creating their first models using box modeling.
During week 2 I will introduce students to low polygon modeling and using the editing tools.
For week 3 we will work on high polygon modeling and creating fake geometry using textures.
In week 4 we will play with lights, cameras and animations to show off the students work.

Learning Goals

In this fun class students will learn:
 - Concept Art
 - Navigating in a 3d environment
 - Transform tools - Move, Scale and Rotating a model
 - What is a 2d shape versus a 3d object
 - Editing the different parts of a model such as Vertex, Edge and Face
 - Working with low polygon counts verses high polygon counts
 - Adding Materials and what is a Texture?
 - Adding lights and cameras for animations

Supply List
This class does require a good computer and a 3 button mouse for the student to work with.
We will be using the software Blender for this class so please check that your computer can run the software before downloading it before class. Blender does work with most computer systems made in the last 5-10 years. This is a free software and available at the website https://www.blender.org/.

Hello!
My name is Liz McCorkill and I am a 3d Artist, Online Teacher, Game Developer, Bookworm, and a Nerd. I am also the proud owner of two fur babies cats, Pebbles and Midnight. Warning Pebbles loves to go to school and may show up in class from time to time just to say hi.
I have been working with children for the last 4 years as a teacher, bus driver, and stay at home Aunt. Before that I worked in software testing and teaching at Central Piedmont Community College.
I would love to bring the classes I created for my college level students in 3d Modeling and Game Development to a younger generation so that they can see what really goes on behind the scenes to make their favorite games.
Along with games I love to read and delve into world history and trivia like why do we shake hands with our right hands and not our left? Well for those that don't know it is because people would use their dominant hand to fight with swords, daggers, or guns. It was a sign of respect to put down your weapon and shake hands. Also it was harder to hurt the other person if your dominant hand was busy.
Pebbles and I cannot wait to meet your student and show them around my world be it in 3d modeling, books or history.
