Class Experience
Half-off for first class: TASHAHALF13 **Attention** There are two different time length options for this class. I offer both a 20-minute section and a 40-minute section. This is to better suit your child’s needs and growing abilities. If you do not see a day/time that suits your schedule, please feel free to message me directly and I will do my best to accommodate one that will. If you’re interested in a class that is offered twice a week, please let me know as I can arrange it. In this one-on-one class your child will have all my attention. They will be, and feel, heard. Each class is personalized per your child’s needs. I am a certified teacher with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, I am also a homeschooling parent of 3 (including one with special needs). I understand that every child learns differently and at a different pace. I can offer a wide range of services to help your child reach their goals and I always do my best to ensure they are captivated and focused for our classes. Learning should be fun and the manner a child is taught should be as relatable to them as possible for the best retention and comprehension. Together, your child and I will fine tune their strengths and tackle areas of weaknesses as a team. Their self-esteem, confidence, motivation, and determination will rise! Feedback will be noted during each class and messaged to the parent no later than 12 hours after the end of class. These notes typically include a brief description of the activities performed in class, how the student performed, along with anything pertaining to the lesson that could help. An example would be a list of vocabulary words the child did not know and/or homework that is suggested to assist in their progress. Here is a list of some of the services I can provide along with a brief description. I am always open to, and very much invite, more suggestions. I feel that strong communication between parent and teacher are vital to a child’s progress. - Reading Comprehension: Depending on reading level of student, I can either use short stories or a book. I can supply a book that meets both the child’s interest as well as suits their needs. The technique used include problem-and-solution as well as asking portions of who-what-when-where-why-how after an amount of reading. I will provide reading material aligned with your child’s interest. - Supervised Reading: This is for growing readers, whether they are learning to read English as their native language or as a foreign language. I supervise the students reading, support them by correcting pronunciation as needed as well as ensure their understanding of some of the vocabulary, often asking for them to provide examples of how a word is used. I will provide reading material aligned with your child’s interest. - Free Talk: For those learning English as a second language, free talk is a fun way to practice English. If your child is very young, they will be excited to share their toys. I will be enthusiastic and ask questions that will encourage them to tell me about them. If your child is older, we can discuss movies, books, games, and explore their interests. They may have questions of their own. Perhaps they heard a phrase said in English that they don’t understand. Here is a chance for your child to receive direct, one on one, personal interaction and feedback. - Creative Writing: This can be done by the child writing their own story based on a writing prompt I provide, or it can be done by us collaborating. In both, I would share my screen and, in a word document, transcribe either their story or our story. As the stories can either be real or made-up, they can be a lot of fun! I’ve seen the shy speak up, the excited even more elated, and the unsure take a chance. I’ve also seen children use the stories to express various moods, such as a bad day, and together the story acted as a bridge of understanding and healthy coping. - Fun Time: This class literally means I want the student to have as much fun as possible through game play. These classes could include Simon Says, Ispy, rock-paper-scissors, drawing, Pictionary, show & tell, as well as practicing typing speed per a third-party link provided during class. This helps them model good sportsmanship, listening skills, as well as models healthy exchange and growth of social skills. Other activities could easily be included as well as suggested. If you’re unsure, please feel free to message me directly. - Story Time: This class benefits those learning English as a second language, are young readers, and those that love a good story told! I can offer a variety of books to read to your child that will meet their interests. Sharing my screen, I will have the story up for them to follow along with the reading as well as see any pictures provided. - Increase Typing Speed: I can provide a separate link that only your child and I will participate in. The text that we type can include dialogue from Star Wars, Harry Potter, as well as inspirational quotes. Although it is set up to be a typing race, I will not fully compete (unless otherwise asked to) as I will be encouraging your child’s efforts. At the end of each “race” it will show your child’s typing speed in words-per-minute (wpm). - Puzzle Time: I will use a private link to a site where your child and I work on a puzzle together. Your child can pick out a puzzle that interest them as well how many pieces it’s in. It can be in as few as 6 pieces to well over 300 if they’d like. This is a great class to chat and relax as we work together on strategies to complete the puzzle as a team. You and your child are encouraged to try out what services would suit your needs best. Whether that’s one service or a few different services each class, is entirely up to you. This class is meant to be personalized and as always I’m open to suggestions not listed. As I taught English as a Second Language online in a 1-on-1 structure for the last three years, I am very adaptable to each child’s needs. My 160-hour TEFL certificate focused on still maintaining the best teacher-student interaction through online instruction.
