Journey into the exciting world of dragons and their diverse Dragon Masters from around the world! In our class, your child will be immersed in a world of fantasy and adventure. They will read this popular and marvelous series of magical dragons, young brave warriors, fearsome wizards, and the many challenges they encounter! As your student reads out loud I will be actively supporting by listening for pronunciation (correcting as needed), verifying knowledge of vocabulary words (explaining as needed as well as providing visuals when possible), double checking their reading comprehension, as well as providing lots of positive feedback to fuel both their confidence and continued reading. This will also help a child’s confidence in public speaking. This is an especially wonderful class for those learning English as a Second Language (ESL) and, aside from a bachelor’s in psychology, I also hold a TEFL certificate. In each class, I will take notes in a document regarding words corrected, vocabulary discussed/explained, focus areas of pronunciation (specific areas to look for), and anything else regarding that specific. These notes will be uploaded in the classroom within 24 hours after the class (typically within an hour after). I do this for both the student and parents to refer to as needed, as well as show what was worked on/discussed that day. While this is a weekly class, additional classes enrolled in will stay in line with their current reading. This is a student guided class. The Dragon Masters series is proudly published by Scholastic's Inc. The reading age is listed as 6-8 years old, with a grade level of 1-3. It has been my experience that, despite the age and grade level listed, this series has worked really well for even older students. This is thanks to the rich vocabulary and creative usage of wording. The Dragon Masters series, authored by Tracey West, will captivate the imagination, leaving the reader to want more. Below is a list of all the Dragon Master books, in order, as well as a link to purchase them if interested (no materials are needed for class, however, as I use the digital books as the learning material for above stated purposes): 1) Dragon Masters: Rise of the Earth Dragon 2) Dragon Masters: Saving the Sun Dragon 3) Dragon Masters: Secret of the Water Dragon 4) Dragon Masters: Power of the Fire Dragon 5) Dragon Masters: Song of the Poison Dragon 6) Dragon Masters: Flight of the Moon Dragon 7) Dragon Masters: Search for the Lightning Dragon 8) Dragon Masters: Roar of the Thunder Dragon 9) Dragon Masters: Chill of the Ice Dragon 10) Dragon Masters: Waking the Rainbow Dragon 11) Dragon Masters: Shine of the Silver Dragon 12) Dragon Masters: Treasure of the Gold Dragon 13) Dragon Masters: Eye of the Earthquake Dragon 14) Dragon Masters: Land of the Spring Dragon 15) Dragon Masters: Future of the Time Dragon 16) Dragon Masters: Call of the Sound Dragon 17) Dragon Masters: Fortress of the Stone Dragon 18) Dragon Masters: Heat of the Lava Dragon 19) Dragon Masters: Wave of the Sea Dragon 20) Dragon Masters: Howl of the Wind Dragon 21) Dragon Masters: Bloom of the Flower Dragon 22) Dragon Masters: Guarding the Invisible Dragons 23) Dragon Masters: Curse of the Shadow Dragon 24) Dragon Masters: Dawn of the Light Dragon 25) Dragon Masters: Legend of the Star Dragon 26) Dragon Masters: Cave of the Crystal Dragon If you'd like to order the book/series to follow along with our story time, please follow the link below from Scholastic. https://www.scholastic.com/site/branches/dragon-masters.html As a parent of three myself, I understand the importance of approving material my children are exposed to first. I am a huge fan the site commonsensemedia and use it often to gauge the appropriateness for movies, books, games, and more. Teacher expertise and credentials
Aside from a bachelor’s in psychology, I also hold a TEFL certificate. I have a lot of experience working with children around the world as I used to teach ESL online for many years. I'm also a homeschooling parent of three (one of which has special needs), so I'm very patient and understanding to the individual needs of each student.
