Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 9
The writer's needs will determine the lesson for each session. Having trouble getting started? The lesson will focus on prompt analysis, brainstorming and pre-writing. Not sure how to organize your ideas? The lesson will focus on pre-writing that lends itself to an organized essay. Want to improve word choice? The lesson will focus on precise verbs, specific nouns, and using adjectives or prepositional phrases to create description. Need help with sentence structure? The lesson will focus on sentence patterns and punctuation to create sentence fluency. Need to work on editing? The lesson will focus on grammar

If you have something you are working on, we will use that piece of writing to guide instruction for that session. If you don't have something and just want to improve as a writer, I will provide the prompt and take you through the writing process to successfully respond to the prompt.

I can learn about each writer through shared samples or on demand writing completed during the session. What makes writing tutoring so valuable is the opportunity to tailor each lesson to the strengths and weaknesses of the writer. I can help writers move from good to great or from needing improvement to mastering a skill. I recently received this feedback from a student I tutor online: "My tutor loves what she does, and that is what makes her so good at her job!"
