1:1 Free Talk for Conversational Growth in English

Children love to talk and share, but sometimes struggle due to confidence in the English language and/or self-esteem. My class offers a safe space to build on both of these areas and much more.

Class Experience

Beginner - Advanced Level
As a homeschooling parent, instructor, and past ESL teacher, I have found that children often resist growing in various areas when in an environment that doesn't offer enough focus on their personal interests.

I saw this a lot with my ESL students. During a more strict instruction setup, they had less confidence and motivation. But when I'd use leftover time for free talk, they would shine bright! They would readily accept new vocabulary, were proud of themselves for learning, and showed a higher retention rate. Just as importantly, they left the class smiling, feeling good about themselves, and looking forward to our next lesson. That is what I love to see and what I'd like to offer with these classes.

I see the same behavior for those that could use a boost in confidence. Maybe they're too shy to speak up around others and/or do not feel heard otherwise. In my class, they will be actively listened to, genuinely supported, and encouraged to keep their growing confidence to express outside of class as well.

If there are specific areas that need to be worked on, I ask the parents to please let me know prior to the start of class. After meeting your child I will assess the best way to help them in the specified area. Meaning, deliver the instruction in a manner that will still maintain the positive atmosphere of their class.

Our class time could consist of pure conversation where the student is sharing things about themselves, telling stories, or even working with me to write one (a story). As various topics come up, I can share my screen to show and explain new vocabulary, as well as pictures for visual aids. I'd like to make our time together as rich and meaningful for the student as possible.

As the class is learner directed, any notes taken during class will be submitted within 24 hours after (typically within an hour). I do this for both the parents and student. The parents can see what was discussed that class and if the child would like to refer back to a new vocabulary word they learned and/or subject, it will be readily available in the classroom for them.

Learning Goals

The language of focus is American English, but they will also be building their conversational skills to include new vocabulary, pronunciation, and confidence in speech/sharing.
