Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 7
Intermediate - Advanced Level
As your student reads out loud I will be actively supporting by listening for pronunciation (correcting as needed), verifying knowledge of vocabulary words (explaining as needed as well as providing visuals when possible), double checking their reading comprehension, as well as providing lots of positive feedback to fuel both their confidence and continued reading. This will also help a child’s confidence in public speaking.

The Goosebumps series, authored by the quite famous R.L. Stine, are suspenseful scary stories that offer young readers spine-chilling plots with mysteries and laughs. I share my screen and present the books digitally which allows optimum viewing.

As I was quite the bookworm growing up, I am a huge fan of this series and find it nostalgic. R.L. Stine has sold over 400 million copies, as well as won numerous awards and recognitions.

This is an especially wonderful class for those learning English as a Second Language (ESL) as, aside from a bachelor’s in psychology, I also hold a TEFL certificate.

In each class, I will take notes in a document regarding words corrected, vocabulary discussed/explained, focus areas of pronunciation (specific areas to look for), and anything else regarding our class time that I feel may need to be noted or reviewed. These notes will be uploaded in the classroom within 24 hours after the class (typically within an hour after). I do this for both the student and parents to refer to as needed, as well as show what was worked on/discussed that day. While this is a weekly class, additional classes enrolled in will stay in line with their current reading. This is a student guided class.

If you'd like to order the books, please follow the link below from Scholastic:

Note: Short of a book directly stating it's a sequel, the majority of Goosebumps books are not connected to each other. This means they can easily be read out of order.

Currently the books I have to offer are (with many many more to be added):

- The Haunted Mask

- The Cuckoo Clock of Doom

- Say Cheese and Die

- Go Eat Worms

- One Day at Horrorland

- Be Careful What You Wish For

- The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb

- Deep Trouble

- The Ghost Next Door

As a parent of three myself, I understand the importance of approving material my children are exposed to first. I am a huge fan the site commonsensemedia and use it often to gauge the appropriateness for movies, books, games, and more. I'd like to attach their link regarding the Goosebumps series as it is, in my opinion, the most honest to be offered. That said, if either the student or parent ever wishes to skip over one of the books, I would of course honor said request.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Aside from a bachelor’s in psychology, I also hold a TEFL certificate. I have a lot of experience working with children around the world as I used to teach ESL online for many years. I'm also a homeschooling parent of three (one of which has special needs), so I'm very patient and understanding to the individual needs of each student.
