In this live ongoing math class, learners that have recently completed 1st grade or would like a jump start will review math skills and strategies. In class, I will review key common core math standards plus more for learners that will be preparing to enter 2nd grade next school year. This class is for students who need to brush up, strengthen, or get a jump start on skills. The main categories that will be introduced are as follows: addition to 20, subtraction within 20, place value, time, picture graphs, measurement, comparing and fractions. My classes are common core aligned and tiered for higher thinking. This means that I teach to hit common core standards but I also go above those standards because they may not be enough for some students and to introduce them to others. Students will have an opportunity to engage in class by greeting one another, answering questions and games. Students will have an opportunity to practice concepts in class with weekly provided worksheets and engaging activities. I believe in full engagement while teaching so we may use hands, manipulatives and songs. While I give instruction and teach targeted concepts, I also provide students a chance to speak, develop listening skills, critical thinking and the space to be comfortable with trying.

Hi! My name is Mrs. LaShana! I love teaching math classes. I also love teaching Preschool. I have worked with children for over 15 years. I worked as a daycare teacher for 6 years. I have an Associate's degree in Elementary Education. I also have a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Fun fact: Mathematics was my my original major in college until Senior year. I am using all those skills to teach. I am a former homeschool mother of 3 children. I am always learning. I think it is a life-long journey. I think learning should be continuous and exciting! My hobbies are cooking, sewing, and crafting. Interesting fact: I once decorated a mirror filled with pennies!
