When your kid makes a piece of art, they’re also building confidence, processing feelings, and creating connections. That’s what we’re celebrating with the Outschool Visual Arts Showcase—and your kid could win up to $1,000 USD* in prize value, a one-year Outschool Membership and a billboard in Times Square!

Hello, I’m Ella and this piece was inspired by my family’s trip to The San Diego Museum of Art at Balboa Park in San Diego, California. I found myself drawn to the old still life paintings. Oil painting takes so much time, days to even weeks between layers, and something about going through all the effort to preserve this little moment really drew me in. While I’ve taken a few art classes in more modern styles and mediums, after this trip I picked up oil painting completely self taught.

Hi, I’m Zayden! Digital art inspires me because it helps me connect with people in ways words can’t. I used existing video clips to create something new through my own editing and digital art. I like turning moments into feelings people can experience. Creating this helped me see what’s possible when I use my creativity. I made it myself without AI.

I am entering my art because the ocean inspires me so much. It is something my mom and I both love and it makes me feel happy and calm. I recently got to go scuba diving and seeing life underwater was way better than learning in a book. I love nature and animals and the ocean has so much of both. It is powerful but also peaceful. I love sitting with my mom, watching the sunset, and talking. Those moments are special to me and mean a lot. I love painting scenes, and my mom loves watching me.

Hello, I’m Hayden! I love to read, play sports, write, draw dragons, etc. I’ve been doing art class with Ms. April Taylor for a year, and before that, I have been taking other Outschool art classes. If I’m being honest, the inspiration for my painting came from a watercolor class with Ms. April Taylor. It made me feel extremely happy because of the outcome, since water color isn’t my strong suit. I owe my teacher a huge, clap clap clap and thanks! Thank you so much for your time! -Hayden

Hello! My name is Ellie. I am so grateful to be in this competition. I love art, especially drawing anime and chibi. I'm less focused on winning and more on showing everyone what I can create!:)(although winning would be great;)) I've been drawing for about a year.

My name is Emmi and I’m a self taught artist who likes drawing graphite portraits. As you can see, the girl in this portrait is lonely and surrounded by darkness and shadows. But what inspired me about this and because I made this is that she looks brave and her eyes are twinkling, symbolizing how she likes the darkness. As an introvert, sometimes I can feel this way. But it’s not a bad thing. This portrait, when I look at it, looks like how I am sometimes; the loneliness can make me be brave.

I named my drawing, "My Wise Friend," because owls remind me of wisdom and quiet strength. As the oldest child in my family, I help take care of my younger siblings and try to be a good example of responsibility, like the owl. My faith in the Lord inspires me the most, because He helps guide me to be loving, strong, and wise like the owl. This art makes me feel calm and thoughtful, and it reminds me that even quiet people can be strong leaders who help others.

I created this piece with acrylic paint, letting bold colors and movement guide the scene rather than trying to control every detail. The sky shifts from deep blue into warm bursts of gold and red, while the quiet crescent moon balances the intensity below. As I painted, I allowed unexpected marks and small imperfections to stay. Instead of taking away from the work, they add character and make it feel more real. To me, those moments aren’t flaws—they’re what bring the painting to life.

This beautiful Scarlet Macaw is listening to the sound of nature and wondering if she should stay or fly away into the canopy of the Amazon. I am inspired by nature. I am 13 years old. Art brings me peace, so when I draw the nature around me, I feel we are one.

I have a favorite tree in my grandma’s yard that feels a little magical. It is kind of hidden and I enjoy climbing up and sitting in it. My dog Skibby will often follow me. I also love the Fall and all fairytales so I added in things like the pumpkins and the little gnome. I also love fashion, so I designed a dress I would love to wear with little white butterflies on it. I enjoy drawing, painting and working with clay, so this art piece combines all of these things together.

Hi I'm Mariah! Ever since I was little I've always enjoyed arts and crafts. I grew to love drawing when I realized how pretty art can be. Black beauty is what inspired this drawing. My parents always affirm me and teach me to embrace my natural beauty. I hope others look at this drawing and find confidence and self worth in the skin they are in because Black Is Beautiful and all are too!

this art work makes me feel sad for the bird🐦⬛ on the left, let me explain. the bird on the left is using a jet pack, not its wings it is sad because now it has no perpous for its wings. while the bird on the right is using its wings soring freely and not a jet pack. the bird on left is using a jet pack because engineers went to far and now it can't fly without a jet pack the end.

Hello! This is my entry for the art contest. It took me about… 4-6 hours? I made the setting during sundown, because i thought it looked better compared to the lighting during day/night. The girl in the middle is one of my characters that I’ve been drawing for 2 years. I wanted to highlight her while the other people blend into the background. The ideas just been sitting in my mind for a while but i never got the chance to draw it until now!

I love to read, write, and draw. The Wings of Fire series has inspired me a lot in my writing and my art. I've read the books and drawn the characters countless times. Every time I do, I find something new that inspires me and pushes me to keep creating. Glory is one of my favorite characters in the books, which is why I chose to draw her as my entry for this showcase.

My name is Eli and I am 13 years old. Since I was 4, I have always loved making art, but over the past year I have started to draw much more seriously. I was inspired to make this piece because I love the art of ONE PIECE. I feel very proud of this drawing because I think it is one of the best pieces of art I have made so far.

I am in third grade and I am writing a comic book called Woodland Walkers: Beginning of the Walkers. My drawing has the characters of my book. I love nature and the color purple. I love animals, especially foxes and wolves. My drawing makes me feel excited and calm and it makes me want to call a pack of wolves!

I always wondered how a female demon would react to seeing a young child. From the many anime I have watched some react in disgust and some in curiosity. I love demonology and seeing how people depict different sins and or entities. This is my rendition of you as the young child looking up to a demon.

Hi my name is Emily and this is my art piece, it’s called “My future” and this specific art also really inspires me because in the photo you can see she is sitting down on the ground and looking up at the moon and I do that a lot and if that was me I would be trying to listen to my older self or in fact to My future, but In this it’s like I’m obsessed with my future and I’m trying to get to know her better then I know myself right now.
My name is Yasna, I like anime, cats, drawing and writing. My animation is about my OC Wolf, my ocs inspire me to get better at drawing and animation so that I can create more pieces with them in it. My animation makes me feel proud because it’s the longest animation I’ve made so far.

My artwork is called “Out in the Danger.” It shows a girl and her dragon standing in front of a volcano that is erupting. They are best friends and they are being brave together even though it’s scary. I love drawing chibi girls and dragons because dragons are my favorite. I think dragons are strong and magical, and I like imagining them as loyal friends. This drawing makes me feel strong and brave. It reminds me that I can face my fears every day and not feel alone.

I really devote myself to drawing and really love drawing animals like cats and dogs! I am deeply proud of how far I’ve gotten in art!!! My piece was inspired by cats, because they’re so cool! (obviously.) It makes me feel very proud of how great I’ve gotten at art!!!

Hello everyone, My name is Debasmita and I am a creative teenager who enjoys drawing, piano, and public speaking. I have drawn the famous “Hogwarts Castle” from the Harry Potter franchise. I have loved Harry Potter since I was very young, and even now I feel that Hogwarts, although fictional, is a place I belong. The plot and characters demonstrate themes of perseverance, growth, and determination. I felt inspired by this beautiful story and wanted my art piece to mirror these ideas. Thank you!

I am Layla, and I love a lot of mascot horror (a media that makes a setting with a mascot scary!) I made this art piece with a character from Indigo Park, which is a game I love a lot! I think Rambley the Racoon, who is the mascot and digital guide character! I decided to draw him to show my love for the game!

My name is Evan and I am 11 years old from Phoenix, Arizona. Growing up in Arizona, my inspiration is the desert sunset of the Sonoran. Some people don’t view the desert as beautiful, but I do. I love looking out at the magnificent mountains, the tall Sahuaro Cacti, and the sun falling behind the landscape. The desert view inspires me to explore and see what lies beyond the mountains. I am color blind, so I chose to create this artwork in a black and white sketch, showing detail in the shading.

As a stargazer, seeing a night sky filled with different kinds of wonders always amazes me. This inspired me to combine many different night-sky objects together. It makes me feel peaceful and fulfilled. I think anyone who sees this in real life will be breathtaken and amazed to the eye!

My drawing is called Winter Day. Drawing this made me feel peaceful. I imagined the crisp cold air, the softness of the snow, and the joy that comes with a winter day. I wanted to show how winter looks, and how it feels. It looks so beautiful. Even though I live in a place where a lot of snow is rare, I thought of my past memories of playing in the snow with my sister and what a perfect snowy day would look like.

"Raining Inspiration" came from things in my life that inspire me in my day to day activities. The things I drew represent what I love - my family, friends, nature, books about dragons, my faith and so many other things. I feel proud to share my drawings and feel like I can soar when I have these items represented in my art.

All the colors of the buildings represent different emotions like how the bright colored ones represent happiness, excitement, and joy, and the ones on the more darker side represent curiosity, anger, and sadness but above all those feelings are a sunny bright sky with beautiful clouds that all look like a painting and I wanted to draw what this feeling is like, thank you if you voted for me!!

I love being a Girl Scout, baking/cooking, making friends, nature and drawing. What inspired me to sketch this was the beauty of human life and how it’s important to have nature on your shoulders and the treasures it brings to our lives. When I was looking through photographs of people and decided to work my first hyperrealism piece this one made me feel warmth and happiness within my soul. It reminds me of nature and autumn, like I am walking through an Aspen forest.

This painting represents my memories of summer holidays spent in Poland at my grandma’s countryside home. Every summer I would visit her, and the landscape around the village was full of golden fields and large round hay bales after the harvest. I remember the warm sun, the smell of fresh grass and straw, and the peaceful feeling of being surrounded by nature, which contrasted so much with what I am used to living in New York City.

This mural is inspired by the last seven years I've spent worldschooling with my family across 50 countries. In biodiversity hotspots like Brazil, Costa Rica, and Thailand, I was surrounded by multitudes of vibrant birds and colorful flowers. Traveling filled me with awe, joy, and a deep sense of wonder, so I painted this huge 9' x 12' wall mural. I hope its size and scale invites people who walk by to pause, feel that same wonder, and cherish the beauty of our wonderful world.

I really love both reading and art, so I was inspired to sketch this dragon eye in graphite by the dragon king Kazul from the Enchanted Forest Chronicles (the series was written by Jessica Day George, if anyone is interested 🙂). Kazul is my favorite dragon of all time because she is so witty and clever, and she is a strong female character AND the best friend of the main character in the series. Dragon eyes—especially this one—make me feel calm, centered, and empowered.

I was inspired to paint the desert during one of my watercolor classes in Outschool. I liked the subject because, even in the rough & rocky terrain you can find something beautiful. I like cactuses because they can survive through the toughest weather and still make it. It’s important to remember that even if you get discouraged - you are the cactus…you can survive anything! I don’t actually live where cactuses grow, so imagining them was my challenge.

This is a fiber arts piece I made using fabric I inherited from my Great Grandmother after she passed away. I am inspired by my Great Grandmother's legacy as an artist to create works, try new things, and make mistakes. I chose to make a sunrise since it symbolizes new beginnings and the ability to try again. The sunrise reminds me that even if I mess up, there will be another day, another chance to improve, practice, and make something beautiful!

My main inspirations for art are imagination and fantasy. I love making mystical creatures and they incline me to do what I love: drawing. While I love drawing fantasy animals, I also enjoy drawing still lives and realistic portraits. I added hints of both reality and fantasy through everyday items and magical items, like the socks or the floating musical notes.
Being autistic, I know stress and anxiety. Social life, school, and more- the list goes on. However, there are always two things I know help me: gaming and art! Taking a moment away and gaming in peace helps me feel calm and relaxed. I put those strong feelings into this animation. I spent a lot of time on this piece! I focused on lines, shapes, color language, and value when drawing. My biggest hope for this piece is that you relate to and/or remember this piece before you go to bed tonight.

I work with a variety of artistic mediums to express different ideas and emotions. This particular piece was inspired by my empathetic nature and a question that has often crossed my mind: do angels ever feel overwhelmed or overworked, constantly being called upon when they are needed most?

I love bright colors and cool textures. I am always looking for fun ways to make my art pop! I was inspired by Pop Art and how one thing can look so different in a bunch of colors. I used bubble wrap as a stamp for the background. It looks like giant sprinkles. It was so satisfying to dip the bubbles in paint and press them down! This art work makes me feel happy and energized. All the neon colors remind me of a sunny summer day when I’m about to eat my favorite ice cream!

I competitively figure skate. I am at the ice rink almost everyday for about 2 hours. People tend to underestimate figure skating, saying it's petty or materialistic. Or they're impressed, only seeing the stage and the dresses, not the work it took to get there. Hard work, perseverance, and effort all go into it. The friends, coaches, and supportive parents all play a role making even daily practice wonderful. There's always something about stepping out onto the ice that always feels magical.

Artwork should connect to the theme, ‘Something That Inspires Me,’ and must be original and created by the learner. If your learner uses any material they did not create themselves, it must be clearly changed into something new and original, not just copied or lightly edited. AI tools may not be used to create any part of the artwork. Learn more about our submission guidelines here.
Our team reviews your learner’s artwork to make sure it meets the showcase rules and submission guidelines. This could take up to a week. You’ll get an email once it’s in the Showcase. Keep an eye on this page for updates. Entries will appear here when ‘Showcase Favorite’ voting begins on or around March 13.
Submissions can’t be edited once they’ve been sent, so be sure to review your upload and entry form carefully before submitting. Each learner can have only one entry in the Showcase, and judges will review only one submission per participant.
Outschool’s teacher judges review entries for creativity and originality. Learners submit their work in one of two categories: Physical Art (e.g., drawing or painting) or Digital Art (e.g., animation or digital illustration). One finalist is chosen in each age group for each category. Showcase Favorite voting happens on the Showcase page and is open to those aged 18 or older. Public voting for Showcase Favorite is open only to individuals who are legal residents of jurisdictions where participation is lawful. Notwithstanding the foregoing, residents of Canada are not eligible to participate in the public voting portion of the Contest.
