Outschool Teacher Policies

Last updated January 1, 2026
Outschool is an inclusive, fun, and respectful place to learn. Everyone on our shared platform – kids, parents, and teachers – deserves to feel welcome, included, and valued. What we say and do matters.  By following a few simple policy guidelines, together, we can all help make Outschool awesome for everyone!

Platform Trust & Safety

Enrollments & Classroom Integrity

  • Honor published start times and reply to enrolled families promptly.
  • Communicate promptly with families about any enrollment or schedule changes.
  • Use a professional, private, quiet, desk-based setup - sessions from vehicles, public spaces, beds, bathrooms, or other personal spaces don’t meet safety standards.
  • Monitor learner breakout rooms and set clear behavior expectations.
  • Supervise all live sessions through the Outschool‑provided Zoom links.

Privacy & Learner Safety

  • Verify the identity of all enrolled learners at the start of each meeting.
  • Report any unauthorized access to Outschool immediately.
  • Platform privacy standards prohibit storing user content, information, or class recordings outside Outschool systems.
  • In-person meetings are only allowed when part of an Outschool‑sponsored event.
  • Only one guest teacher is permitted per class session.
    • Unbackground-checked guests may not be left alone with learners.
    • Regular guests, such as co-teachers, must become approved Outschool educators.
  • Do not share account credentials.
  • All educators on Outschool are considered to be mandatory reporters and must follow all local government reporting requirements about suspected abuse or neglect.
  • Teachers are also encouraged to bring known cases of suicidal ideation or self-harm to attention of the safety team so they can advise on possible intervention as needed.

Third-Party Tools & Materials

  • Limit external resources to those disclosed in the class listing.
  • Don’t direct learners under 13 to any tools that are not COPPA-compliant.
  • Include any AI use in your class listing.
  • For gaming classes, use private servers or the most private mode available and collect gamer tags privately, not in the classroom feed.

Class Listings

Clarity & Originality

  • Listings should be accurate and current, reflecting what is offered during learning sessions.
  • Class listings should avoid sensational language and not guarantee specific or absolute outcomes
  • Tutoring and Enrichment & Club listings should include a minimum of four example topics.
  • Disclose in your class listing: sensitive/age‑restricted content, participation risks, any required accounts or personal information, and any monetary gain tied to class requirements.
  • Titles and summaries should be relevant, age-appropriate for all Outschool users, and free of coupon codes, emojis, alternative fonts, or CAPS.
  • Set class prices in round numbers within ≥ $1 and ≤ $10,000 range.
  • Respect third-party intellectual property rights of third parties.
    • If you feel that your copyright is violated, you can file a DMCA copyright complaint here.
  • Major changes to class listings must be resubmitted for review.

Class Content

  • Offer classes only in subjects where you have expertise.
  • Class content and materials must be suitable for the stated age range.
  • Use inclusive language that does not exclude or restrict who may participate.
  • Avoid roleplay or debate scenarios that depict groups of people as superior or oppressing others.
  • Facilitate discussion without endorsing personal views. In social sciences, frame topics with multiple perspectives and sources.
  • Promote inclusivity, avoid a specific religion or religious point of view.
  • Self-paced classes require a prerecorded video for each lesson, at least one minute long.
