When your kid makes a piece of art, they’re also building confidence, processing feelings, and creating connections. That’s what we’re celebrating with the Outschool Visual Arts Showcase—and your kid could win up to $1,000 USD* in prize value, a one-year Outschool Membership and a billboard in Times Square!

So I like to draw a lot of buildings, ranging from small lodges, to big skyscrapers. I got inspired by all the books I read (I read, a LOT), and decided to make a Storybook row about the fairytales. It makes me feel kinda' magical you know, like all these little details that make it feel alive.

My painting is inspired by nature and it's wild, powerful landscapes. This I have made from pure memory of what I know the African savanna looks like. This makes me feel happy, but also remembers me that this stunning wildlife will one day leave us if we don't stop hurting them, they'll go extinct! Showing the awes of nature and protecting it is my goal in life.

I painted this because I love surfing and the tropics. I wanted to make a big, bright wave and a warm sunset. I used lots of colors to show the sky and the water moving. The wave is my favorite part because it feels strong and fun, like riding a wave. I just painted what I imagined and let it flow like the ocean.

The forest is a very peaceful place, and that is why I wanted to draw it. I was inspired by the way the sun shines through the leaves and the quiet sounds of the birds. Making this art made me feel calm and relaxed. I hope my picture makes people feel like they are taking a nice, quiet walk in the woods.

This piece was inspired by the Greek myth of Persephone and Hades. It depicts a young Persephone, before she meets the king of the underworld. This is one of my favorite Greek myths, and I even wrote a song about it! I think this is one of my best pieces yet, and hope you like it!

Hi my name is Vivian! This is a Starry Night inspired painting that I made using palette knives. You might not be able to see in the picture, but the texture is spiked. This painting, and the original, make me feel calm. When painting this I felt a sense of awe for how difficult it would've been for Van Gogh to capture the beautiful scene.

I got a large piece of Douglas Fir bark from my grandparents' wood pile. They live out in the country and have a lot of trees and flowers on their property. I love spending time out there, building forts and picking bouquets, and that inspired me to create "Meadow on Douglas Fir." When I look at it, I feel peaceful.

My name is Isla, and I love nature and art. My grandma loves bees, so I combined what she loves with what I love to make her a picture. I've been taking watercolor classes for nearly four years. I want to show my grandma how much I REALLY appreciate her by getting the picture I made for her on a billboard in Times Square.

Hello, my name is Charlotte and I'm so happy to be in this contest! Something that inspired my art was the beautiful, colorful city and the beauty of being up high to see it, and at the same time feeling a calm stillness of being alone and sitting in the rain. I also really wanted to put my OC Nauro in it, and having him looking down on the city, which I think came out really nice! I really hope you like my art!

My names Tallulah. I am a 13 year old artist. This art is a year or two old, but it definitely is my favorite piece of mine. Photorealism and hyperrealism have always been my favorite art styles. I always admire artists that can draw realistically, so the fact I was able to draw something as realistic as this always cheers me up:]

My name is Nola Mae and I have been riding horses since I was 6, For 8 years now, since I first started riding, I dreamed of competing at a place like CHP, and a few months ago I was able to make that dream come true and compete there winning first place with sarge, I used what exactly went through my head when I won, all my little 6 year old memories playing back in my head during my last stride to the winning last jump and all the hard work I did to get there

I made this piece in my art class when we were learning about glitch art, taught by Mrs. B. It inspires me because glitch art isn't supposed to look perfect; its messy, creative, it can be whatever you want it to be. Also, Stitch is wild and free, he's expressing himself. And isn't that what art's all about? I made this using markers, white acrylic paint, and a plain graphite pencil.

My name is Leah and I am a 17 year old artist. One of my biggest inspirations has always been my mom, she inspired me to draw and to start working as a graphic designer. Since my mom is an artist, I loved drawing from a young age, and I’m grateful to her for encouraging and helping me improve. My most treasured memories is when my mom read me Russian fairy-tales before bed, so I wanted to capture that moment in my drawing.

The main two things that inspired my piece are 1. the stars, and 2. my love for Greek art. I wanted to incorporate the process I once learned the Greeks commonly used to properly create "beautiful" women and "handsome" men (typically the Archimedean spiral) as well as the art worthy equations that explain the creations, movements, and positions of nebulas, energy, and matter. In the end, I wanted the piece to feel inspiring, dramatic, and free.

I made this art piece for a homework assignment. It is inspired by the painting "Surprised!" by Rousseau. I love dragons, and so I remade my own version to include them. This art piece, "The Roar of Thunder" changes the focus from the main ground to the background, revealing two dragons. It shows that there is more than one way to make beautiful art.

My name is Sophia, my art piece is a collage made with construction paper, scissors and glue. It is a picture of my cat Camella Belly sleeping on my bed, with a big Venus fly trap plant and the full moon in the window. Today is the full moon, and Camella Belly was taking a nap on my bed. She looked so cute! This picture makes me feel happy.

My name is Zachary and I like reading, sketching, and playing tabletop role playing games. For this piece, I wondered what it would be like to be at the bottom of a puddle looking up through it as if it was a window to see who was looking down. I'm proud of it, and it makes me feel happy and relaxed.

I am Luca and I painted this because I love animals and I really like polar bears.

Hi! I'm Sasha. I'm 11 years old. I've never done something like this before, so I'm really excited! This is cover art for a book I'm writing called Enemies and Elements. I designed the cover to look like the four elements - Fire, Earth, Water, Wind. In the middle, I subtly added a fifith element, Darkness. I really hope you like it, and my book should be coming out soon!

The piece that I’m submitting is called Blissful Dreaming, and the subject is my cat Pierre! The art tools that I used were Prismacolor colored pencils, a white POSCA marker, and a color pencil blender. My cat, Pierre inspires me to take it slow, and relax when things get stressful. Hence why I put him in clouds, sleeping. Some challenges that I faced/trying something new were drawing the clouds, and using the POSCA marker for the whiskers and stars. Hope you like it!

Arabian Horse on the Mountain top! Horses inspired me to make this piece of art! I love horses and I hope to become a veterinarian one day!

Minecraft is a game that does more than entertain me; it inspires me to be more creative and attentive to the world around me. It pushes me to think outside the box and focus on the quality of everything I create. I drew the baby pig and dog because they're my favorite animals in this game. They've inspired me to build many structures and habitats in-game. I wanted to show them in a cinematic way to show how my favorite parts of Minecraft give me ideas for what to create next.

I am six years old and I love to create through drawing, painting and model making. I was inspired by Jim Dine to create this painting for my mother using mixed media like tissue paper, crayon and paints. The painting makes me feel happy as it uses the colors I love and the heart is full of love.

My piece is called Angry and it is inspired by the Scream by Edvard Munch. When I drew it, it brought back emotions and feelings from when my dog passed away on my birthday. When she died she was young and I thought she was going to live longer. I was so angry and I drew stuff in my classes to help me with my emotions. It helped me to get over it. I was also inspired by the movie Inside Out and the character anger. My sketch teacher taught me how to do dark and light shading with my art.

When visiting Washington, DC, I took a photo similar to this perspective. I found it to be an interesting line of sight, framed by trees and ending at the Capitol Building. When coming up with a piece for the contest, I thought of the photo I took. Using it as a reference, I sketched out the drawing before finishing with watercolors and colored pencil. Seeing the city and all the details the make it up is inspiring, as it reminds the viewer that there is more to a city than just the landmarks.

Hello! My name is Jayson and I’m fascinated my tragedy and comedy masks and jesters (both of which were my inspiration). A jester, something thought of to be joyful, using a mask used to display a set emotion on a stage with no crowd. The mask being used to hide something that the circus does not want the audience to know. Being controlled by string, unable to do anything with his own will using the mask to hide it all. Sometimes our life’s are like that, we try to hide how we really feel.

Hello, I'm Grace! This piece is inspired by (and is of) Splatoon, a game by Nintendo. The character pictured has fought their way up through an underground base, seeing the outside world for the first time after losing their memory from being in said base. It is inspiring to me since after all their hard work, they got the thing they wanted most: reaching the surface.

I learned about this mysterious plane on Youtube so I clicked on it to see what it was. I wanted to figure out why this plane crashed and I decided to make a drawing of it. What happened and the drawing made me feel sad because there were a lot of people in it. I chose purple, pink, and yellow so it felt like a dream as if it was still flying.

Each bubble shows a different part of who I am. The flute shows my focused, connected side - the part of me that loves being in harmony with others. The drums show my wild, energetic side - the part of me that loves the thrill of a big performance. And the guitar shows my private, peaceful side - the part of me that just enjoys being in my own world.

I’ve moved a lot throughout my life, and along the journey I have been inspired by the people around me. I was born in St.Louis, then moved to Connecticut, then to Shanghai, back to St.Louis, and I’m currently in Chicago. I made a ton of friends but also said goodbye to many of them. My painting depicts two people promising to stay in touch and how much their friendship means. My friends inspire me as a person and I could’t ask for better friends.
I have been an ongoing Outschool student for 5 years and been improving my animations ever since. What inspired me to make this animation was my love for music, as that is what got me into animation in the first place. I am really proud of how this animation turned out, since it took a whole month to complete all on my own.

I love drawing even if i'm not great at it. This ballerina is imagining herself on stage dancing for an audience and she's expressing herself with dance. I was in a art class when my teacher said dancers are what we will be drawing and i chose her because of my very own love for dance.

My name is Kreday, This is my work A Mother’s Love. In this work there are people trying to kill the gold baby dragon for its golden scales, but the mother tries to protect her child by putting her life on the line. This shows how your parents sacrifice a lot for you. I wanted to draw a dragon, and I wanted to add a story to it. And I was thinking of greed and love, so I made poachers trying to kill a mother dragon, to kill its child for its golden scales.

I love making art and using bright colors. My artwork shows a sweet birthday celebration with a piece of cake that looks like ice cream. I was inspired by birthdays, celebrations, and sweet treats. I used bright colors and sprinkles to make it feel fun and exciting, like a party. The candle represents making a wish. This artwork makes me feel happy, excited, and remembering special moments.

I have always wanted to be an artist, and animals and designs like the one in my piece have been a major inspiration for me. When I began drawing this piece, it was not meant to be a “big thing”, but as my mind wandered and my hand took over, I found myself carefully layering colors and brushstrokes that I had not ever known I could create. It transcended simply sitting and thinking of what to create, and I know more awaits me in a future where I am inspired to create more extraordinary pieces.

Hi, I'm Lianna and I like to dance, play with my friends, go to the beach and I love to draw. My drawing is called "A beautiful world starts with you" because each person has the power and responsibility to make the world a better place. The big green tree symbolizes growth, strength, and a healthy environment. The sun, birds, butterflies, heart, and flowers all represent life, love, peace, and harmony in nature. The heart especially shows that we should care for the Earth with love.

Hello my name is Sophie, and I created this art because I wanted to make something calming and not to crazy. I really enjoyed making this piece, it made me feel passionate and calm. In this piece, this bear came to the park to have a fun day on her bike. She is hoping you like this art. I hope you enjoyed looking at my piece!

This piece came from wanting to create something beautiful and detailed using nature as inspiration. I built up the tree, lantern, and wisteria with clay before painting over it on the Canvas for a 3D effect. It took a lot of time and effort especially when working with details and lighting. This piece pushed me to stay focused and not rush. It reminds me that putting time and effort can turn simple ideas into something unique so I would love to be a finalist or be a fan favourite :)

I love to role play. So I'm very excited to get to enter in a drawing of one of my favorite characters. Gene Doe is one of my favorite original characters. He is 5'9, has dyed purple hair (though it is now literally unable to change due to a magical incident), and always has his guard up. This drawing portrays him in a moment of awareness and vulnerability. It's nice to see him get to be embarrassed.

"Raining Inspiration" came from things in my life that inspire me in my day to day activities. The things I drew represent what I love - my family, friends, nature, books about dragons, my faith and so many other things. I feel proud to share my drawings and feel like I can soar when I have these items represented in my art.

I am a student who enjoys drawing and expressing my feelings through art. This artwork shows a child holding the Earth, which represents my hope for world peace. I was inspired by the idea that even small hands can protect our planet. Creating this piece makes me feel calm and hopeful, and it reminds me to care for others and the world we share.

As a stargazer, seeing a night sky filled with different kinds of wonders always amazes me. This inspired me to combine many different night-sky objects together. It makes me feel peaceful and fulfilled. I think anyone who sees this in real life will be breathtaken and amazed to the eye!
I was recommended by my teacher Monica to compete in the contest. This animation shows how I love to animate but have no motivation to do it. This animation makes me feel proud and I really like it.

My name is Elsie H, this art work was inspired by my friend. I am very honoured to be in this contest. My oc Lizzy is very nice, funny, and loving. She loves to play guitar. She has a very nice smile and she likes to swim. Also, she loves the summertime. Thank you! - Elsie
