Want to program a robot that can drive around and clean up trash at the bottom of the ocean? In this class we will be using a "Scratch-like" code editor that allows us to program a virtual Vex robot. Using a virtual robot allows learners to try robotics without purchasing an actual robot! Learners will learn how to drive the robot and sense objects in the environment. Once we have mastered driving forward, backward and turning, then we will head over to the coral reef playground where we will use our new skills to locate and clean up trash. This class is the first in a 3 part series. Parts 2 & 3 will teach more sophisticated algorithms to move the robot around and detect more objects. Each learner will run their own code editor, and will be able to view my screen as I teach concepts and work through strategies. WEEK 1: Introduction to Virtual Robotics and driving the VexVR robot WEEK 2: Using the distance sensor and strategies to clean the coral reef. NOTE: learners should be familiar with "drag and drop" block based coding.

We will be using https://vr.vex.com/ It is free and no account required.
Zoom and vr.vex.com need to be on the same device so that learners can share their screen with me when they have a problem or want to share their work. Some learners need help to set this up during the first class.
Learners who want to use two devices can log into the classroom twice.
