Join Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy in this 6 week course exploring Jane Austen's classic, "Pride and Prejudice." In every lesson, learners will participate in games, quizzes, activities, and virtual field trips that enhance their understanding of the story. Each lesson will begin with thought provoking questions to ensure that learners have understood and truly dug into the assigned chapters. Then, a video or slideshow will take learners deeper into the historical context to improve comprehension and connection to the story. Each lesson will also include a small project or writing activity to better connect learners to the story and drive home lessons about theme, character, and symbolism. Throughout our reading, we will chart the progress of our characters and their journey to overcome their faults of pride and prejudice. We will analyze the perspectives of different characters and practice writing from their points of view. All of this will be done at each learner's own pace. By the end of this course, learners will have identified dynamic characters and their changes over time, discussed themes and symbolism from the novel and supported their ideas with evidence from the text, and written several short pieces exploring perspective and point of view.

超過 6 週課 1:
Volume I, Chapters 1-8
Learners will be introduced to the Regency Era through a slideshow that teaches them about the history and social norms of the time. Then, an activity will have learners delving into the text for examples of etiquette rules in action. We will think about how each character adheres to those social rules, then create illustrated trading cards for the characters, listing their strengths and weaknesses.
課 2:
Volume I, Chapters 9-17
We will move on to the minor characters of the novel, including the infamous Mr. Collins. Learners will explore how Austen uses Mr. Collins to satirize beliefs of her time, investigate Lizzy's weak spot for Mr. Wickham, and try to see things from Caroline Bingley's perspective.
課 3:
Volume I, Chapter 18 through Volume II, Chapter 3
Learners will engage in debate about Charlotte Lucas's engagement to Mr. Collins. How does this event affect Lizzy's views of her friend? How is this related to the overall themes of the novel?
課 4:
Volume II, Chapters 4-19
After comparing letters written in the novel, learners will practice their letter writing skills as they write a letter from Darcy to a friend about his proposal attempt.
