In this class we will begin with a brief story time. We will then discuss some of our favorite moments from the story and how the illustrator was able to use drawings to show that. We will discuss colors and shapes and scale. I will demonstrate combining these elements in drawing. Students will then spend time creating their own drawings inspired by the story. As a children's book illustrator and former Atelierista, I have found the importance, for very young learners, of using art as language. Art helps us to develop and portray concepts and knowledge even before we have the words. My goal is to equip learners with the tools needed to begin using art as language.
Students should have 3-5 pages of light or white colored paper and drawing materials of their choice (for example crayons, oil pastels, markers, pencils, etc)

This story time together should be a time when you can create with your little learner and let them take the lead of artistic exploration.
