小組指導閱讀〜一年級

In this small group reading course we will be reading a new book each week . All students reading at a grade 2 level are welcome, no matter what the age or grade!  We will focus on many different reading strategies including but not limited to the following:
-building background information before reading
-retelling/recounting a story
-understanding vocabulary
-using a glossary
-answering text dependent questions
-using illustrations to better understand a text 
-re-reading to answer comprehension questions
-decoding skills
-phonic skills

Small group reading is an amazing tool to help young children build confidence in their reading skills. Being in a group of peers allows your student to learn from and to teach others. It assists in building reading fluency, proficiency, comprehension and vocabulary development just to name a few! 

The class will be structured as follows:
1. We will discuss prior knowledge of the story if applicable . This is a wonderful strategy to help children become better readers by using what they already know to decode and comprehend a text. 
2. I will introduce the digital copy of the book with a book walk. 
3. We will discuss important vocabulary that will be found in the book.
4. We will do a group reading of the text.  Each student will be given the chance to read multiple pages. I will encourage students to use multiple strategies to decode words they may struggle with . 
5. Students will answer comprehension questions using page guides when applicable. Being able to find clues in a text is an important skill that assists students in finding answers to comprehension questions.  
6. We will focus on different grammatical or phonetic reading strategies and practice  skills discussed with an interactive activity.
7. If time allows we will re-read the story.
