On the first day we will take turns reading pages in The Pigeon Wants A Puppy and write and illustrate the beginning, middle, and end as we discuss it together. On the second class we will take turns reading and discussing The Duckling Gets A Cookie. I will make a group chart as students write character traits of the Pigeon. Students will write and illustrate "One time I gave a friend..." To go along with the theme of the book. The third day will be the book My Friend is Sad with Piggie and...
- Students will take turns reading pages aloud with the teacher's assistance. Each story's elements will be discussed such as character, plot (what happened in the story), and setting.
- We will list and discuss character traits together
- Students will write a brief answer to related story prompts.
- Students will list and discuss characters' feelings.
I was an elementary school teacher for 22 years.
4 books by Mo Willems; The Pigeon Wants a Puppy, The Duckling Gets a Cookie, My Friend is Sad, and There is a Bird on Your Head (books approximately $7.00-$10.00 each) If you are missing one or all of the books, you may listen along. Handouts (if needed that day) will be sent before each class. Crayons and a pencil will be needed.
