Does your learner like to solve fun mysteries? Well, let them put on their detective hat and get to work using their 2nd Grade math skills! Mini Math Mysteries are a fun 'game-like' activity to practice different math skills. They follow a simple elimination structure where learners will be using the answers to the math questions to eliminate possibilities. This listing is for a private, ongoing class that meets once per week for 25 minutes.

At the beginning of each class, the learner will hear a short story to preface the mystery they will be solving for the day. Then, it is time for our math detective to get to work! The learner will answer a variety of questions based on different math content (addition, subtraction, place value, telling time, missing addends, etc.) to solve the mystery. They will first solve the math questions, and then they will look for their answers in the boxes and eliminate the boxes with a matching answer. After answering all questions, only one image will remain (that image will contain a number that didn't match any of the answers to the questions) and that box is the solution to our mystery! 

We will work on one to two mysteries per session depending on how quickly we are able to finish one mystery. I will be ready to have a short lesson to teach the learner, if needed, to help review the rules of the concept(s) we are focusing on for the day. You can find some of the math concepts we may cover each session below:

-Comparing Numbers (up to 100) – Circle the Greatest/Least
-Place Value of the Underlined Digit (Tens & Ones Only)
-Mentally Add Ten (numbers up to 100)
-Mentally Subtract Ten (numbers up to 100)
-Adding double-digit numbers – No regrouping (Questions and Word Problems)
-Subtracting double-digit numbers – No regrouping (Questions and Word Problems)
-Adding Multiples of Ten
-Place Value Models - Base Ten Blocks (Tens and Ones)
-Missing Addends
-Read & Write Time (O’Clock & Half-Past)
-Missing Numbers in Skip-Counting Sequences (2s, 5s, and 10s)
-Mix of Addition & Subtraction (within 100, no regrouping)
-Addition within 100 with regrouping (Questions and Word Problems)
-Subtraction within 100 with regrouping (Questions and Word Problems)
-Adding three addends
-10/100 More or Less (Missing Numbers)
-Place Value Block Models (Hundreds, Tens, Ones)
-Read & Interpret Picture Graphs
-Read & Interpret A Bar Graph
-Comparing Numbers up to 1,000
-Missing Addends (Questions and Word Problems)
-Numbers written in words up to 1,000 (write the numeral)
-Place Value Hundreds, Tens & Ones (Expanded Form, Models)
-Skip Counting by 5s and 10s

Hello, my name is Kristi. I am a married fur-mom to two dogs, Olaf and Olivia. I enjoy reading, being outdoors, learning new things, and going on adventures with my husband! 

I have a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education. I also have a MBA concentrating in Accounting. Math is a big passion of mine! I am a certified PreK-5 teacher in the state of Georgia. I also hold current Gifted and Talented, Special Education, and TESOL education certifications. I have been teaching in some capacity for 11 years with experience in all elementary grade levels, from pre-K to 5th grade! I taught at a private preschool for 1 year and the rest of my teaching years have been in a public school setting or online. In May of 2019, I began a new endeavor, teaching ESL online to students in China. I absolutely love teaching online and meeting students all the way across the world! As a teacher, I believe it is my responsibility to make learning fun, help and encourage students to be successful in learning, and fostering a love for learning at an early age. In my classroom, you will see plenty of activities for varying learning styles, lots of movement and interactive activities, and learning through play.
