In this one time class, we will begin with a quick ice-breaker song before jumping into reading Mo Willem's classic "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!". In read aloud fashion, students will get to experience the Pigeon's wide range of emotions as he tries to convince us that we should let him drive the bus! Learners are encouraged to participate in telling the Pigeon "No!" when he asks to drive the bus (in some hilarious ways!), but are welcome to just listen if they choose. We will take a few pauses during the reading to focus in on what the Pigeon might be feeling on that particular page. At the end of the reading, students will participate in a drawing activity (using the provided printable) where they will draw themselves and the response they'd give if the Pigeon asked THEM if they could drive the bus! Students are encouraged to think about how the Pigeon might react or feel about their response. Time permitting, learners can share their responses with the class if they'd like, but it's not required. The overall atmosphere of this class is intended to be lighthearted and inclusive while young students strengthen their listening, observation and literacy skills, and learn social-emotional skills that will no doubt benefit them for years to come!
學習目標
Students will build on existing listening, observation and literacy skills while they listen and interact with Teacher Felicia during the reading of "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!". During reading pauses in the story, there will be a focus on social-emotional development as students ponder what the Pigeon might be feeling in response to being told he can't drive the bus. The drawing activity at the end of the class will build on fine motor and creativity skills while also further expanding on social-emotional development as students write their own responses to what they might tell the Pigeon is he asked THEM to drive the bus.

At the end of the reading, students will draw themselves and their response(s) to the Pigeon if he asked THEM if he could drive the bus! Students are encouraged to also think about how the Pigeon might react to their response. Time permitting, students can share their drawing and response with the class, but it's not mandatory.

Hello, my name is Felicia! I'm a professional linguist, mother and book enthusiast. I LOVE all things books and some of my favourite stories take place in a library, café or bookstore!
From my university days, you'll find a mix of French and ancient Greek and Roman literature in my home library. I hold a bachelor's degree in Lettres françaises (French literature) from the University of Ottawa and a bachelor's degree in Classical Studies from Western University. In my career as a linguist, I've added various translation and proofreading resources to my library as well.
In recent years, however, my absolute favourite additions to my library collection have been from children's literature. It's been an absolute privilege and blessing to share my love of reading with my young children. Parenthood is an experience that's had me reminiscing about my pre-pandemic volunteer days as a literacy facilitator at my local library. It's a time that I hold dear to my heart.
It's my hope to share with my Outschool students this same love of reading while also developing new skills. In read aloud style, my courses will use storytelling as a means to build social-emotional skills in children ages 4-8. Some of these same courses will also be offered in French and Spanish immersion for students wanting stress-free exposure to another language. What better way to learn than with a good book!?
Parents, thank you for taking the time to consider my courses. I'm looking forward to seeing your littles in my class! Bye for now!
