Previous knowledge required: A working knowledge of English grammar; 1st/2nd noun/adjective declensions and cases; 1st/2nd and "To Be" verb conjugations in the past, future, and imperfect tenses; rudimentary vocabulary including common conjunctions. If this is your first class with me, I will send you a vocabulary list prior to class starting so you can refer to it as we work. We will go over the "Be" verb (esse) in the present, future, and imperfect tenses, and then add "Able to" (potis)...
Students will learn more translation tips, and use their reasoning to identify recognizable words during sight reading. They will learn the irregular form of "to be".
I hold a BA/MA in world history (focus on ancient) and foreign languages (focus on Latin and German). I have taught Latin and also been a private tutor for students aged middle school through university. I have also traveled and studied in the places where Latin was prevalent in the ancient world.

Study time for Latin should be 2 hours for every hour of class. Study the vocabulary handouts I send after class. Write the nouns, adjectives, and verbs in charts so that you can commit them to memory. Do the translation sentences I provide in the handout after class. It is not to be turned in, but it is for your own benefit. If you have questions, always feel free to send a message to me on Outschool.
