**Get $5 off one of my classes with coupon code KAITLYN5OFF5 In this engaging weekly book club for ages 8-10, students will dive into popular books, strengthening reading comprehension, critical thinking, and discussion skills. Each session encourages a love of reading through interactive conversations. With a focus on peer interaction and supported by a teacher experienced with diverse learners, this class provides a fun, inclusive environment where young readers connect and grow. **Although it’s best if students read the assigned pages before class, they can still join in discussions on a variety of topics! Even if your student joins mid-book or didn’t finish, they can catch up before the next class.** Current book: The Lemonade Crime by Jacqueline Davies (Reading level: 670L, S) **these chapters below should be read BEFORE class, as those will be the ones we will be discussing** :-) 3/12 - Chapters 1-4 3/19 - Chapters 5-8 3/26 - Chapters 9-12 4/2 - Chapters 13-16 Class Experience: In this 30-minute weekly book club, students will explore exciting books, discussing themes, characters, and connections to their own lives. Every month or so we’ll start a new book, keeping the adventures fresh and varied. Homework Each Week: Students will read the assigned chapters (or have them read to them) before class. Optional guided questions will help keep them on track, but they’re not required to complete them. What Will Be Taught: -Reading comprehension and critical thinking. -Techniques for analyzing characters, themes, and plot. -How to make connections between stories and personal experiences. How Is the Class Structured? Each week, we’ll focus on discussions where students talk about specific chapters or sections of the book. The class begins with a brief introduction, followed by a group discussion where I guide the conversation on key topics. We focus on conversation, not lectures, making this a more interactive and fun experience. Teaching Style: My teaching style is interactive and supportive. I guide discussions with open-ended questions and encourage students to participate at their own comfort level. Visual aids and structured prompts help keep the class focused and engaged. Learner Interaction: Students will actively share their ideas, respond to questions, and engage in peer discussions. This ensures everyone feels included and valued, while building communication and comprehension skills. By the end of each session, students will have deepened their understanding of the book, practiced critical thinking, and enjoyed meaningful interactions with their peers.
學習目標
Develop Reading Comprehension Skills: Students will enhance their ability to analyze key elements of fantasy literature, including plot, character development, themes, and setting.
Build Critical Thinking and Discussion Abilities: Students will practice expressing their thoughts and ideas through guided discussions, engaging with peers to explore deeper meanings and connections within the text.
