Students will better understand how fractions work in order to build a solid math foundation. Day 1 Using manipulatives, we will explore fractions and practice exercises combining and removing fraction parts. Day 2 Using manipulatives and written fractions, we will add and subtract fractions with and without common denominators. Day 3 Using manipulatives and written fractions, we will multiply and divide fractions. Day 4 We will have a fractions review with word problems. Then, we will end with a fractions bingo game. I like to have fun and be a little bit silly. I'm a kid at heart, yet still professional with a passion for learning and teaching. I give my students the tools they need to face obstacles, persevere, and overcome challenges. In class, we use mistakes as learning opportunities, discuss big ideas, make connections, and learn to be problem solvers. Requirements: Students should have mastery of addition and subtraction of numbers 0-20 and multiplication facts for numbers 1-10 (or have a multiplication table to use).

Fun with Fractions worksheet (attached)
Scissors
Colored pencils or a color printer
Paper and pencil
Before class, please print the sheet, Fun with Fractions. Using colored pencils color each big section in a different color. For example, all ⅓s are the same color. All 1/2s are the same color, but a different color than the 1/3s. Then, cut out each smaller section. You should have 8 separate small 1/8s, for example.
If you have a color printer, you can print out the sheet in color and then cut following the directions above.
