DESCRIPTION In my class, I strive to teach grammar thoroughly and analytically. Students will look at short paragraphs from famous literature, discussing some of the ways that grammar aids in making the writing clear and engaging, as well as looking at the ways words and phrases are connected. We will start each class with a warmup in which students identify various parts of speech, define a word using context clues, and fix mechanics or usage errors. This course is a complete...
The curriculum covers parts of speech, sentence structure, punctuation, usage, mechanics, spelling strategies, and writing style. It aims to develop students' understanding of how English works, which will help them become better writers and communicators. I include all grammar concepts, including some grammar concepts that traditional schools rarely include in their curriculum (i.e. sentence diagramming, and spelling strategies).
I am a certified secondary public school teacher of 7 years. I specialize in working with students with different learning needs at my school (gifted and special education). I have a bachelor of science degree in English Teaching (minors in special education, gifted education, and psychology). I have a MAE in English. I love teaching grammar/writing and use this curriculum in my own classes.
