Prisoner B-3087 follows the unimaginable and horrendous path of a boy named Yanek as he, along with his family, suddenly find themselves in the hands of the Nazis who have invaded their homeland. Life as he knows it, including all those he cares and loves, will never be the same. Over the course of Yanek's brutal future, including his movement from one terrible concentration camp to nine more, he is witness to terrifying treatment directed at all prisoners, including himself, in order to dehumanize, degrade, and make them feel worthless. For those learners who are ready to read and discuss this topic, this novel present a true story written with some liberties by the author, as explained in the afterward. We are at a time in history that it has never been more crucial to read, read, read on topics such as the Holocaust, the Nazi rise to power, and the strength, drive to survive, and finding a way to continue life after such loss, degradation, and dehumanization. Learning these topics, when ready, is crucial as in the next decade or two, no survivors will be left to tell their story. In between the horror, one can find moments of triumph and strength to live another hour, another day, and for a future.

The class covers, via discussion, the Nazi rise to power and overtaking of countries as they gain strength, leading to their rise in Poland resulting in the capture of Jewish people, movement into ghettos, senseless suffering, illness, maltreatment, and death. The class will continue, by following the main character, Yanek, to learn of the work details, life in concentration camps, mental and physical abuse and, at the same time, momentary friendships and caring for others in a setting that has shown one has a better chance of living by keeping one's head down and not making eye contact with guards or prisoner. We learn from the chances some prisoners take to live on and help others and the momentary glimpses of a drive to survive this travesty of a world based on segregation, prejudice, and horrendous treatment based on religion, nationality, age, and more

This is a classic well-told in -depth novel by Alan Gratz. My Book Links classes are led by me, in a very safe and thoughtful way, through discussion and question/ answer based on the happenings in the book. Vocabulary, figurative language, history as presented in the text, comprehension from the plot, conflicts, character analysis, setting details are presented as we travel through the chapters read for that week. Learners will interact through the entire class by being a part of the discussion, to their comfort level, and sharing thoughts, specific answers, and feelings in a safe manner. No doubt, this book can bring up emotions and based on my 32+ years of in-class teaching and teaching on Outschool, students are treated with attention to emotional level and care as each person reacts differently based on their knowledge into the topic. My goal is that learners leave feeling empowered about decision making, how choices affect ourselves and others, and the importance of stepping forward to do what is right, even when others are not doing so.

I would certainly recommend this not be the first book on the topic for learners.
We are sticking strictly to the age requirements.

There are reading we prior to the first meeting and in between each of the other classes,
And they are listed under the assignment section of this outschool F FCC. Thank you hey do Ruber here I’m just gonna go over here for a sec

其他詳情

父母的引導和規範
This course is for mature learners as the topics include intolerance, maltreatment, starvation, death at many times during the plot and different ways, massive mistreatment , a goal of dehumanization based on heritage, beliefs, age, strength, and more during the time period of the Holocaust. It may lead to excellent opportunity for family discussion and you may find your learner wanting to talk about it beyond class. I suggest parents have some knowledge of the content via details and reviews on www.commonsense.org and also the summary on Amazon. This book presents a great opportunity to learn, grow, and understand the critical importance of decision making, standing for what is right, and the results that can arise from standing by rather than coming to one's aid.

The spellbinding story is based on a true and deep removing tale of Jack Gruener As recalled by Jack and his wife Ruth, Both having survived the horrendous experiences of the holocaust and we’re than married over 60 years until Jack’s passing in 2017. Bruce still visits schools today throughout our country to speak about experiences in the holocaust and the critical importance of remembering this event so that it does not occur again in the world. As alternate sources, one may want to check out Ruth’s memoir in titled Out of Hiding. One can also find factual information that Jack, for a time, worked at the enamel factory where a German businessman Mr. Schindler leder went on to save hundreds of Jews from extermination. The story of Schindler’s list press other multiple books of his incredible braveness and accomplishments might be an alternate source you wish to look at with your learner. Jack continued on to survive nine more concentration camps against all odds. This novel briefly touches upon the fact that he came face-to-face with Josef Mengele, And although this book does not go into more detail other than a moment when Mr. Mengele is pointing to the left and to the right at each prisoner, in other words who shall survive and hooch on that, there are many multiple sources that one can read about him. Finally, following Jack’s trail to the United States and his rebuilding after the loss of so many in his family and in his entire country and beyond, again there are multiple sources that show the resilience and strength, along with tremendous odds, during the rebuilding of one’s life after such a horrific time. In terms of sources from different perspectives, I am not aware of any that would support the factual information that occurred during this time period. The important thing is the sensitivity and understanding from the teacher and dealing with the situation and remembering the key lesson of the importance of learning about history so that these horrific events do not repeat themselves.

I have taught this subject through novels to 5th and 6th graders for over 32 years plus have studied with a world-renowned expert in the field who teaches at a college near my location. I also have experience bringing a survivor of this time period to my classes to speak to students and adults from home for over 20 years. I have no plans to bring in a guest speaker at this time as the guest speakers that I use prefer to speak to groups larger than 10 people although learners can certainly check out the Shiloh project, Originated by Steven Spielberg, containing
thousands of audio and video recordings stored at the Holocaust Museum of Washington DC In order to hear firsthand from survivors.I am aware of the questions that can arise, the thoughts students bring forward and the emotions. My past experience leads to a very strong and solid understanding of the types of responses that can occur during a book like this and the sensitivity that is needed to make this a safe environment for everybody.
