While plants usually have no problem being naturally green thanks to their chlorophyll, in the animal kingdom green pigments can be much harder to come by. And vertebrates especially almost always have to rely on a bit of color and light mixing magic to make themselves look like they're green! 

In this special seasonal session, we will meet many green animal friends as we investigate how most fish, amphibians, reptiles, and birds manage to look green; ponder why green is almost entirely absent in mammals except sometimes in the eyes; and discover the one and only vertebrate class (that we know of) which can actually produce their own green pigments to color their bodies with.

This single session will consist primarily of slides and multimedia content accompanied by lecture...but there will be opportunities to ask questions as time permits, and the classroom board can also be utilized before and after class to engage in discussion about the topic. Additional resources will also be posted in the classroom after the live session ends to help further your study of the species introduced in class!
