This class will look closely at Charles 'Lucky' Luciano, his group of mobsters, and the unlikely alliance that was forged between them and the United States government during World War II. Although the two groups had very different interests, they were both motivated to cooperate during World War II. What led them to cooperation? How long did it last? Students will better understand the history of the Mafia, as well as the role that they played in New York during World War II.
I am currently employed as an Archivist at a World War II Museum. I have a BA in history, and completed my senior thesis on the interesting role that the Mafia played in America during the Second World War. The 30-page document pulled from original research into the topic of Charles Luciano and his gang's contributions to the Allied war effort from 1941-1945.

Access to YouTube will be required, as the additional documentary content will be accessible to there, for free. Additionally, weekly video lessons will be posted to YouTube by the Instructor. The link to this video content will be posted in the OutSchool classroom for students to watch.
