This class is part of a series of patriotic classes exploring American Symbols. Students will discover the history of the Statue of Liberty. The class will begin with a welcome song. Students will learn a song about the Statue of Liberty as they view photos and learn history through a PowerPoint slideshow. I will use questioning techniques and discussion as students interact with each other and with me. Following the PowerPoint, I will teach students American Sign Language to the song about...
Students will learn: * The history of the Statue of Liberty * Lesson vocabulary and a song in American Sign Language * Creation of a crown and a Statue of Liberty step-by-step drawing
My excitement about American symbols began with travels to Washington, DC. I loved stepping onto the exact spot Martin Luther King Jr. stood for his iconic I Have a Dream speech on the steps on the Lincoln Memorial. Walking through the White House thrilled me as I imagined the historic individuals who had walked its halls. I have enthusiastically taught many first graders about Washington, DC through books, music, and plays. I'm so excited to share American symbols with Outschool students!
