Class Experience
US Grade 2 - 6
A study conducted by the San Bernadino Valley College showed that students who receive face-to-face tutoring classes see an average increase of 12% in their standardized test. They have been also shown to outperform untutored peers across 45 out of 52 academic subjects. What’s more, students who were being tutored surpassed their non-tutored peers by nearly 90%. Student will have one on one access to tutor via the online platform. Breaking down the paragraph into four parts and using a step by step method with an outline will help learners master paragraph writing in this ongoing course. Using open discussion and the sandwich analogy, learners will explore the parts of a well-written paragraph and create one as a group. Topics will randomly be determined by the Wheel of Topics. Each lesson will also include the parts of speech and grammar to ensure sentence quality. The teacher will guide the students in brainstorming discussions, using the graphic organizer, and writing the paragraph. The results will be a strong, cohesive paragraph that includes a topic sentence, two or more detail sentences, and a conclusion. Classes will roughly follow this timeline: 5-10 minutes open discussion about sandwich analogy, paragraph graphic organizer and breaking down the parts of a paragraph 5 minutes parts of speech review of the day 10 minutes use graphic organizer to write a paragraph 5 Recap & Share Students will be asked to submit a paragraph per week. There will be weekly themes and topics, or the student can come up with a topic they desire. Each class's goal is to write an individual paragraph, as highlight parts of speech to ensure perfect sentences. All paragraphs can be posted in the classroom for the teacher to review. Students proficient in typing may use a copy of the Google Document provided by the teacher and no login will be required to access the document. This class is suitable for students seeking exam preparation and ESL support.
