JOIN ANYTIME*** This language arts and math combined enrichment course is taught by a certified teacher and Reading Specialist using the Science of Teaching Reading principles and Teaching Math principles. This class is different from others because it follows a curriculum and is academically focused while being engaging and motivating for all learners in both language arts and mathematics. The curriculum is cross-curricular so science and social studies topics will be also be covered and each week a different theme will be used for cross- curriculum learning. Small class sizes ensure that your child gets the one on one instruction your child needs, child will learn to read guaranteed! Get and keep your child ready for school! This course will cover all 3rd - 5th Grade reading and math the classes that meets all Common Core Curriculum standards. The Units covered are as follows: Unit 1: Introduction & Space Exploration Unit 2: Famous Explorers and Adventurers Unit 3: Exciting Safaris and Exotic Animal Adventures Unit 4: Types of Energy and Famous Scientific Discoveries Unit 5: The Arts and Types of Homes Around the World Unit 6: Famous Kid Entrepreneurs and Scientists Each Week lessons will alternate between math and language arts. READING COMPREHENSION & LANGUAGE ARTS sessions will include proficiency in: Phonics/Grammar Vocabulary Reading/Reading Strategy Comprehension Questions Writing and Review MATH sessions will include developing fluency in: Multiplication and Division Concepts of Fractions Addition and Subtraction of fractions Multiplication and Division of fractions Decimals places, and conversions Tackle complex operations Multi-Step Word Problems Be ready soar in this math and language arts enrichment class. During each class, I will present a topic needed to be a great reader. We will then read short passages and practice using that technique. A variety of sources will be used to practice reading comprehension & nonfictional alignment including informational texts, workplace and community-based documents, general fiction, opinion based texts, and non-fiction aligned with science and social studies curriculums for this age group. Students will be assessed on their comprehension of the reading passages, math skills, and by answering questions about the main idea, making inferences, the author’s purpose, summary, mood, characterization, character’s point of view, sequence of events, theme, and supporting details, and solid understand of these concepts will also greatly improve one's writing. For math, concepts will be using scaffolding, breaking down complex concepts into smaller, manageable steps and providing temporary support structures to help students learn and solve problems, gradually gain competence. LANGUAGE ARTS - What we cover on a specific day will be learner led and depend on the specific class. The topics listed below will all be presented. Finding the Main Idea Locating and Understanding Supporting Details Making Inferences Sequence of Events Comparing and Contrasting Cause and Effect Drawing Conclusions Determining Author's Evidence and Purpose Setting Character Traits Application (apply recently learned information to a new situation) Synthesis Finding the Theme Analyzing Story Structure (Inciting Incident, Conflict, Climax, Resolution) MATH MATH sessions will include developing fluency in: Multiplication and Division Concepts of Fractions Addition and Subtraction of fractions Multiplication and Division of fractions Decimals places, and conversions Tackle complex operations Multi-Step Word Problems
