In this once a week zoology class children will learn all about animals through science, language arts, creative arts and geography! Each week we will study a different animal and learn: - A detailed physical description (size, shape, colour, etc.) - Where it lives - How it moves around and how it gets its food - How it protects itself in the environment : dangers - How they relate to other plants, animals and their environment. The lesson takes a threefold approach: 1. Introduction of concept 2. Discussion and exploration 3. Activity (either drawing of animal, diagrams, charts, writing, drawing) We use minimal worksheets in the classroom and children are encouraged to have a dedicated lesson book where they can draw and write all their work. Waldorf Education integrates the arts into core academics and art plays a central role in the learning experience of the child. What the children finish with is a beautiful and creative textbook that they made and a deeper understanding of what they have learned. * SCIENCE * Children will learn about the characteristics of animals as well as the anatomy. They will do this through observation of diagrams and drawings of the teacher and by drawing themselves * GEOGRAPHY * By learning about animals' environments and needs, children will come to understand different geographical environments. We will spend time looking at animals from a wide range of biospheres, as well as discussing the local environment of each learner. * LANGUAGE ARTS * The children's book work and activities will include writing, used to record information that they are learning. The teacher will guide the children through writing, which the children are welcome to follow along with. The children will practice writing, reading, spelling and complete sentence writing as well as the use of grammar and punctuation. * CREATIVE ARTS * We use minimal worksheets and children are encouraged to have a dedicated lesson book where they can draw and write all their work. Waldorf Education integrates the arts into core academics and art plays a central role in the child's learning experience. What the children finish with is a beautiful and creative textbook that they made and a deeper understanding of what they have learned.
