How Is the Class Structured?
Each class will follow a structured format to ensure a dynamic and engaging learning experience:
🔹 Introduction & Warm-Up (5-10 min): Review of key concepts and discussion of real-world shark encounters.
🔹 Main Lesson (20-30 min): A deep dive into the week’s topic using a combination of lecture, visuals, and interactive elements.
🔹 Engagement Activities (5-10 min): Activities may include video clips, games, group discussions, or real shark research case studies.
🔹 Q&A and Reflection (5 min): Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and share their thoughts.

How Will I Teach?
Interactive & Multimedia-Based Approach – This class will incorporate engaging slides, high-quality videos of sharks in the wild, real-world research case studies, and interactive discussions.
Experiential Learning – Students will analyze actual shark tracking data, explore behavioral patterns, and even learn how scientists interpret body language signals in sharks.
Storytelling & Real Encounters – Insights from my own experiences and other scientists like Ocean Ramsey’s experiences, along with personal fieldwork stories, will bring shark behavior to life in an exciting way.
Critical Thinking & Discussion-Based Learning – Students will be encouraged to ask questions, analyze scenarios, and participate in meaningful discussions.

What’s My Teaching Style?
🔹 Passionate & Engaging – My goal is to inspire curiosity and a deep appreciation for sharks through energetic, enthusiastic teaching.
🔹 Science-Based & Analytical – While we’ll break down complex concepts, I emphasize real scientific research and evidence in all discussions.
🔹 Student-Centered & Interactive – This is not a passive lecture! Students will engage in discussions, activities, and hands-on learning experiences throughout the course.
🔹 Encouraging & Supportive – No prior knowledge is needed! Whether a student is new to marine science or a budding marine biologist, I create a welcoming environment where all learners can thrive.

How Much Will Learners Interact?
Live Discussions & Q&A – Students will have direct opportunities to ask questions and engage in group discussions.
Interactive Games & Polls – To reinforce concepts, fun activities like shark behavior quizzes and “Guess That Shark” games will be included.
Video Analysis – Students will watch exclusive underwater footage of shark behaviors and analyze body language cues.
Case Studies & Problem-Solving – Learners will investigate real shark research, tracking data, and conservation challenges.
Optional Homework & Projects – For students who want to dive deeper, optional activities like research challenges and creative projects will be available.

Why Take This Class?
Gain expert insights into the fascinating world of sharks
Develop critical thinking skills through real-world science applications
Engage in hands-on learning with videos, activities, and discussions
Be part of a conservation-driven community passionate about ocean life

By the end of this course, students will walk away with a deep understanding of shark behavior, the skills to interpret shark communication, and a passion for marine conservation.

For this course, the primary reference material will be "What You Should Know About Sharks: Shark Language, Social Behavior, Human Interactions, and Life Lessons" by Ocean Ramsey. This book provides an in-depth look at shark behavior, communication, and their role in marine ecosystems, serving as a foundational text for understanding shark-human interactions and conservation efforts. Additional resources will include: Scientific Articles & Journals: Research studies on shark behavior, migration, and conservation from sources like the Marine Ecology Progress Series, Journal of Fish Biology, and studies from marine research institutions. Documentaries & Videos: Clips from Ocean Ramsey’s underwater research, as well as reputable marine conservation documentaries such as Sharkwater by Rob Stewart and Planet Earth II – Oceans by BBC. Conservation Websites & Organizations: Information from organizations such as the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology, Shark Conservation Fund, Shark Stewards, Marine Megafauna Foundation, and NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) to provide real-world applications of shark research. Interactive Shark Tracking Data: Tools like OCEARCH Shark Tracker to study live migration patterns of tagged sharks.

教師の専門知識と資格
I am a marine biologist (MSc Marine Sciences) with over a decade of experience in marine research, conservation, and education. My work has taken me across the globe, collaborating with scientific institutions, nonprofits, and schools to bring marine biology and conservation to students of all ages. My passion lies in making marine science accessible and engaging, helping students develop a deep appreciation for ocean ecosystems and the role sharks play within them.

Throughout my career, I have been actively involved in shark and marine life research. At Tursiops in Mallorca, Spain, I contributed to sperm whale and shark monitoring projects using hydrophones and drones to study their movement and behavior. In Mexico, at Centro Ecológico Akumal, I worked on coral reef and fish monitoring programs, studying marine ecosystem dynamics, including the impact of apex predators like sharks. As a Conservation Biologist with Global Vision International in Costa Rica, I coordinated marine conservation programs that included shark research and marine biodiversity protection. Additionally, my research work with CSIC (Spain’s National Research Council) focused on plankton and marine food chain studies, which are critical to understanding oceanic ecosystems that sustain shark populations.

Beyond research, I have extensive experience in education and student engagement. As the Director of Nature & Oceans Adventures, a nonprofit based in San Francisco, I develop and lead marine biology and ocean conservation programs for students worldwide. My organization collaborates with schools and scientific institutions to provide immersive educational experiences, both in-person and online. I also teach marine biology, oceanography, and ecology courses for high school students through Nature & Oceans Academy and Green Study (Florida), designing engaging, research-based curricula that bring marine science to life.

With over ten years of teaching experience, I strive to create an interactive and experiential learning environment. My classes incorporate scientific research, video analysis, shark tracking data, and discussion-based learning to encourage critical thinking and curiosity. Whether working with students in the field or through virtual lessons, I aim to inspire the next generation of ocean advocates by combining science education with real-world conservation efforts.

I am excited to share my passion and expertise with students, helping them explore the fascinating world of sharks and marine ecosystems while equipping them with the knowledge and skills to contribute to ocean conservation.
