U.S. History is long and complicated. In this class, which is part of a 12 part series, we will learn about the early days of North American colonies. We will discuss the who, where, and why's, and what were the results of their newly found societies. We will examine their relationship, both good and bad, with different Native Americans, and examine the impact of indentured servitude and slavery had. It is not required to take each part of this class series in chronological order. Please message me if you have any questions. Topics covered will be: 1. The New Colonies in North America - shaped by slavery, disease, and trade 2. Trouble in Great Britain; Protestant struggle for control; Conflict with French Canada 3. Settling the New England colonies - England 4. Swedish and Dutch colonies and fight for control 5. The Pequot War; Religion and superstition; Bacon's Rebellion 6. The Yamasee War; Alliance and trade; Establishment of British control 7. Southwest colonization 8. Great Britain and the Transatlantic Trade; Consumerism in the New Colonies 9. Early Colonial life in the 1700's; Growth of Plantation economies; 10. Growth of colonial Government, lawyers, and a new society; The difference between the growing states 11. The Quakers and the first Great Awakening in the colonies 12. Learners will gain a better understanding of the different groups of settlers that came to North America, how important religion and politics were to their growth, their relationship with Native Americans and other colonial communities, and how slavery became an integral part of their society. We will also examine growing international relationships between different European countries and look at the impact of the Seven Years War on both politics and westward expansion.

This class will cover early American history, which includes topics of violence, domination, racism, slavery, and discrimination. All topics will be discussed at an age appropriate level. (Please check the age group of the class before registering.)
Some of the sources used for this course use derogatory and racist language towards Native Americans, African Americans, and others. My goal for this course is to be inclusive and to highlight how history is often more commonly written from the perspective of the perceived winner and to create an inclusive class that highlights multiple perspectives of history.
Live – There may be some Youtube videos that are seen during this class. I will share my screen and learners will not need to access them on their own.
